Title: 19 Dec 2008: 10@10 Xmas card

They're soliciting greetings now.  "goodbye Dave" messages are NOT ALLOWED (sez Dave).

I was able to call in & record my message at around 8:45 this morning.  I was still driving and rather surprised that I got through, so apologies in advance for the couple of names I may have missed.  I know that a couple years ago I had a message & forgot to mention either Geoff or Gaz, and this time I had them at the top of my mental list.  But I'm sure I missed Alicat, and pretty sure I missed Mike & Urth this time.  Hard to be sure, it all happened so fast.

But regardless, let me be the first to wish all of you guys a very special Christmas.  I really don't know how I'd make it through the years without the steadfast friendship I've found in this group.  Blessings to all.

Just heard a pretty funny promo for the Xmas card set, featuring "the real" Santa Claus, a woman called "Christmas Carol", and Dave, who provided the voicing for all three.

I'm really enjoying the morning show today, although it's very bittersweet.

Like a lot of others (I'll bet) I was still driving to work when Bohemian Rhapsody came on, so got to do the Waynes World thing in my own car's concert hall -- fun on Dave's last day.  :-)

Can someone direct me to a listen link that actually works, post-redesign?  The player launched via KFOG's site is stuck in silence for me.  :(  I'm listening from work on a Mac.

OK, the "new" player on the KFOG mainpage is kaput, but (thank gawd) there's an alternate link on their "listen live" page...

Try this:

It's working for me. (Admittedly I'm on a PC, but I think Tink uses it on a Mac.)

I'm getting a lot of cow orker & co worker interruptions.  Keep your ears out for 'Mark from Dublin' in case I miss it.

Best case scenario: it's the last greeting before "Christmas Wrapping".

Yep, he's said he'll still do 10@10 from his home in Michigan. Not clear whether it'll be live in real time or recorded for later broadcast.

HM John & Yoko, only because I seem to hear this every 30 mintes this month.

For those of you with XM & who can't get enough of this stuff, check out their Holly channel (we get it through our DirecTV on channel 822).  There's another XM channel that only plays 15 traditional songs in an endless loop, but Holly play Greg Lake, Waitresses, Sting, J&Y, et al.

The Last Song:

EJ, "Friends", as Dave chokes up. (*snif*)

I hope the day will be a lighter highway
For friends are found on every road
Can you ever think of any better way
For the lost and weary traveller to go

Making friends for the world to see
Let the people know you got what you need
With a friend at hand you will see the light
If your friends are there then everything's all right

It seems to me a crime that we should age
These fragile times should never slip us by
A time you never can or shall erase
As friends together watch their childhood fly

I can only imagine the scene in the air studio right now. Probably a big ol' group hug.

Merrry Christmas, happy hanukkah, and much affection for all of y'all, my fellow 10@10 geek squad. You guys rock.

(And yes, tape was rolling on this, as well as last night's replay of the Motortown Revue. Assuming it sounds reasonably listenable, I'll try to get 'em onto CD before New Years and will offer it up to whoever wants a copy.)

As friends together watch their childhood fly

i'm not crying, but i have that knot in my stomach, and i can't open my eyes all the way.

Well, I am, and I'm not afraid to say so.

Same here.

Ah well...
Hippy holidaze and Merry melodies, everyone!

Same here.  Fortunately I had the foresight to tell every one in my office last night that I thought I was coming down with a cold, so I'm getting lots of sympathy for having to keep blowing my nose & wiping my eyes.  Misplaced sympathy, but sympathy nonetheless.

Aww shucks, now they're playing "I Left My Heart..."

more nose-blowing.

Wonder whose call this and the Tony Bennett were? Annalisa? Greg? Whoever did it, tres apropos.

ETA: Didja catch the foghorn bumper after ILMHISF? Harking back to Dave's sign-on, those many years ago.

It's blizzardy and gray here in NYC.  Nice to hear "I Thank You" in continuation of the post-set theme.

Glad they played a few more songs that would have significance for Dave and for the listeners post-set.

However, at the stroke of 11, it appears we're back to KFOG Variety--My Morning Jacket?

I don't know what to make of this moment.  I guess life will go on, and 10@10 too, but it somehow won't be the same.  May all of you, spread out on the globe, have a joyous holiday season, and I will try not to rag on Webster too much!

Peace,

Was that the bonus? I had to step away from the computer for a bit, so came back and heard the end of it but not Annalisa's exchange with the caller.

I got the whole thing on tape this morning, including Dave's signoff and last song, and the songs that followed (Tony Bennett, Beatles, Bonnie). I'll make CDs for anyone that wants one. Ditto for yesterday's Motortown Revue.

now might be a good time for everyone to update their profile to their current email address.  It still remains private, but you can send messages via the board, and it will get forwarded.

Yeah, we're getting dumped on. It was a combo of freezing rain and snow when I got up a couple hours ago, but now it's back to just snow. Hard to say how much we've gotten, as it just piles up on top of what was already there, then melts a bit, then more comes down. I'd guess that since it started last Sunday we've had probably a good 10 inches, and they're saying we'll get 6" or more from this round. Quite unusual, but it does happen every 10 years or so, they're saying. Lucky us.

Well, when it melts, send it to us -- we need the water.

I just caught this on the replay this morning, but was there really a guy (in the segment following Kirsty & the Pogues) wishing a Merry Christmas to the 3 different mothers of his 3 different kids?  And he ended his greeting with "Yes We Can" -- obviously HE can! LOL!
