So, is anyone else working today, or is it just me?   :-\
I'm going to work in my alternate reality job today, guitars and internet.  Unfortunately, I forgot to turn off my smart alarm, and it blasted me out of bed at 5:30 this morning!

I'm working -- Kaiser gives President's Day but not MLK. Most places seem to do one or the other but not both.

Hmmm, Kaiser's website seems to be taking the day off.  We changed insurance at the beginning of the year, and I ended up switching to Kaiser as the Blue Shield option was much more expensive.  Just getting around to choosing a doctor, but couldn't connect to the website.

Young Rascals (or just Rascals?)
People Got To Be Free

This song was number one on the charts when I was born.
Slipping into something
And out of something else

Who's doing this version of "Redemption Song?"

It seems to be Marley, just a different (live) version.

I'm having the same problem with AL's FB page.

sounds like his accent is different on this one.

I'd say that DC is not completely lording over this set, based on the Peter Seeger and  this version of Redemption Song.

.... Then again,I don't thin INXS did a MLK song, so his choices are limited in any case.

"Bitter Tears", or shut my mouth "Original Sin".

heh, I wasn't expecting a response to my INXS quip, but you are right, Bitter Tears wouldn't be completely out of place based on the lyrics I just read.  It's about looking forward past anger and loss.

well played, sir.

1/16/2012- Monday! 10 in the Name of Love for MLK Jr Day !

(MLK-Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere)
  1) U2- Pride (In the Name of Love)
(MLK-Silence is betrayal)
  2) Impressions- People Get Ready
  3) Moodswings- Spiritual High/State of Independence w/MLK speeches
(MLK- We Shall Overcome/The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice)
  4) Pete Seeger-We Shall Overcome
(MLK-We Shall Overcome/If physical death is the price that some must pay to free their children from a permanent psychological death, then nothing shall be more redemptive)
  5) Stephen Marley- Redemption Song
(MLK- A World Perspective/We must all learn to live together as brothers or we will all perish together as fools)
  6) The Rascals- People Got to be Free
(MLK-All life is interrelated. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be )
  7) James Taylor- Shed a Little Light
(MLK- Scarring the American Dream)
8 ) Sam Cooke- A Change is Gonna Come (B.O.S!)
(MLK- I've Been to the Mountaintop: Final Speech)
  9) Patty Griffin- Up to the Mountain
(MLK News: Finally Official-MLK Day Holiday)
 10) Stevie Wonder- Happy Birthday
(MLK- Guns and butter/Funds for war over funds for poor-you don't even get good Oleo)

Pretty impressive -- only 2 repeats from last year (Moodswings and U2). I'd say she had "the knife between her teeth" but MLK was about non-violence.

Not sure if anyone's keeping score, but technically the Moodswings contribution was two tracks, Spiritual High (State Of Independence) Part II and Spiritual High Part III.
