Succumbed to peer pressure. Also my minature golf ID, taken from the late John Campbell's "Firing Line" (which I'll have to post come next '93 set).

so far some tried and true stuff.  John Prine is the only rarity from what I can tell.  Is this called "Big Ol' Goofy World?"

This belongs in the copyEdit 101 thread, but the BoDeans fail the grammar test:

See I can see good things for you and I.

If I gave a crap, I'd be one of those guys at a PJ concert who requests this one or some other radio hit.  And then Eddie V. would tell me to go eff myself.

04/02/12 - Monday! Enter... 1991!

  1. U2 - Until the End of the World
  2. Siouxsie and the Banshees - Kiss Them For Me
(News: The Soviet Union is breaking up)
  3. Dire Straits - Calling Elvis
(Movie: "City Slickers" - Mitch (Billy Crystal) tries to explain his job of selling radio "air")
  4. John Prine - It's a Big Old Goofy World (B.O.S-Tie!)
(Movie: "The Fisher King" - Jack (Jeff Bridges) really doesn't like people)
 5. The BoDeans - Good Things
(Video: "Here they are - Ner-vana!")
  6. Nirvana - In Bloom
  7. Pearl Jam - Alive
(News: Desert Storm - Coalition forces start the invasion of Iraq)
  8. Metallica - Enter Sandman (B.O.S-Tie!)
(Movie: "The Fisher King" - "Are you ready to wake up?" Jack brings the "Holy Grail" to a catatonic Parry (Robin Williams))
 9. R.E.M. - Shiny Happy People
(Ad: Thighmaster - "Squeeze, squeeze your way to shapely hips and thighs!")
10. Divinyls - I Touch Myself

Even the lack of enthusiasm in this thread failed to prepare me for the LN-iness of the set. Feh.

But how can we forget their album cover?

I have a distinct memory of the bass player visiting our Folsom St shop, but that would have been before 1991.  Does anyone else remember if they played around here late '80's?

Listening to the replay. I have such mixed feelings about this set.

Achtung Baby was an impulse purchase that I gave my brother for Christmas without having heard any of it. We spent that year with it in constant rotation. Maybe she could have played UV or Mysterious Ways, but it's still good to hear.

Siouxsie was the first CD I heard. That and Music for the Masses (Depeche Mode), which is an excellent album.

Metallica's black album was definitely there also. "Nothing else matters" or "Wherever I may roam" might have been better choices.

Pearl Jam -- would have been great to hear Oceans, Deep, or Once. Something more atmospheric and NOT Jeremy or Alive or Even Flow.

Nirvana -- throw us a curve and put on the song almost no one likes -- Territorial Pissings. Love that one.

In short, I could take most of the same bands and put together something surprising and still fun, just by avoiding the hits. These are great albums but such obvious choices. I'm sad because it could be better.  :(

Per their Wiki entry, they had charted with a cover of the Syndicate of Sound's "Hey Little Girl" (recast as "Hey Little Boy") that hit #25 in the US, so it would be reasonable to assume they toured here then.

ETA: A quick web search just turned up a date they did in SF in '86, opening for Aerosmith at the Cow Palace.
