Dave posted a pre-Valentine's blog full of poetry, but without any mention of ideas for tomorrow's set.
http://www.kfog.com/shows/airstaff/dave_morey.asp (http://www.kfog.com/shows/airstaff/dave_morey.asp)
so I posted the following comment:
Hey Dave, noting the Requiescat segment above, how about for tomorrow's 10@10 a set of love songs about dead lovers/loved ones?
You've got everything from "Teen Angel" to "Last Kiss" to "Tears In Heaven". Lots of 70's cheese is possible too.
My personal favorite is Sinead O'Connor "I Am Stretched On Your Grave".

well aren't YOU the cheery one?
I'm guessing he has either made up his mind what he's doing tomorrow (and doesn't want contrary suggestions), or else we get a last-minute plea on the morning show for Fogheads to decide between "Love Songs" and "Love Stinks".

so has Dave dropped any hints this morning?

so has Dave dropped any hints this morning?
Given the tone of most of the verses he posted on his blog, I'm guessing it'll be something along the lines of "love stinks" "or "you done me wrong" (or maybe "I'll be glad when you're dead you rascal you").
-
<--Valentine's Day avatar: a couple o' lovable Hell's Angels
-
it's a half-n-half VD set. the "epic", I assume is "Paradise by the Dashboard Light".
BOS Miss Etta!

So I'm only partially right--it's "Valentine's Day: Opposing Viewpoints."

BOS to the Climax Blues Band, "I Love You." I've always adored this song. Another for the someday wedding mix.

"Love, grrr..." and "Love, ahhh..." are the same thing in the Bear Community...

I thought Dave said the first few songs were "selected by Fogheads" but Message to My Girl is most certainly a DaveFave. I really like it, so no complaints, but let's 'fess up, Dave.
-
yikes, I was NOT expecting "Unchained Melody" -- but Dave did mention Ghost as a "very romantic" movie this morning.

It could happen. It's been in at least two VD sets previously (including last year's).

yeah, this wouldn't get anywhere near my top 5 Valentine's songs, although CBB certainly would. And though it's a guilty displeasure for me, I can see how "Unchained Melody" would for 98% of humanity*.
*this is without doubt the #1 Most Romantic Song Ever for most people in the greater Chinese world, to which I can attest after many visits to karaoke in China, Hong Kong & Taiwan.
-
BOS2 "Something" -- the song that finally got people to wake up and discover that George could write great songs too.

so, do Chinese people love Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore?

BOS2 "Something" -- the song that finally got people to wake up and discover that George could write great songs too.
earlier this a.m. a caller got Dave to play "Here, There & Everywhere" & I was wondering if it was a Paul or a John song. Anyone know?
-
Hah! VHM to Tom Shane's guest spot.
And Mike gets the Crystal Ball award for today.

All Paul.

Ol' Paulie.

He has played it in more than one "Love Stinks" set, and I don't know of any other "epic" in that category.

I'd guess Paul.

Un. E. Quivocally. I'd go into a rant about how Ghost was the single worst film ever to receive a Best Pic nom, and they'd just give me that inscrutable nod which means 'barbarians are so difficult to understand'.
-
RIP Phil Rizzuto.

That's why I love you, Gaz!

VHM: Phil Rizzuto, holy cow!

Here comes the throw...and WHAT a throw!

This is Ellen Foley on female vox, right?
-
VHM, PBTDBL.
don't let you meat loaf
-

Correct... and who is (or was?) she married to?

Ghost is underrated IMHO -- a movie some people love to hate because it made a ton of money and has Swayze and Moore as the leads. Schmalz, to be sure, but nicely crafted and well-directed schmaltz.
-
This is Ellen Foley on female vox, right?
Correct... and who is (or was?) she married to?
Dave Foley?
-
VHM2, Liz & Dick, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf.
-
BOS3 Liz & Dick!
Get outta this house, indeed!
-
Haha, VHM to the house of ill will. Is this Shawn Colvin?
-

Liz & Dick JINX!

Yup. a HUGE song on KFOG when it was new.
-
This is Ellen Foley on female vox, right?
IMDb sez yes, and in addition she's from St. Louis (woo hoo!) & sang on JJ's Body & Soul album, and for years dated Mick Jones of the Clash..
-
This is Ellen Foley on female vox, right?
Correct... and who is (or was?) she married to?
I peeked, so I won't say. But! What sitcom was she on for one season?
-
BOS4 to Ben Folds, beeyotch!
-
Give me my money back ... you BITCH!
BOS whatever to BF5.
Guessing we're gonna close with Nilsson, but I'd rather go out with Teddy Pendergrass's "I Don't Love You Anymore," which Mike mentioned on another thread last week.
-

"Night Court"
And, Happy Valentine's Day from Jane Fonda (from today's news):
Jane Fonda uses vulgar slang on 'Today' (http://Jane Fonda uses vulgar slang on 'Today')
-
BOS3 or 4, BFF, Song for the Dumped. (That's Ben Folds Five, not Best Friends Forever.)

I'm guessing we close with J. Geils...

one of those fab peaked-at-#41 songs, iirc. It would be a major bustout if we heard it.

Well played!
-
Ghost is underrated IMHO
Under-rated!? You mean it deserved *more* than the 2 Oscars & 5 noms that it got!? Not to mention the $500M worldwide gross? I may be highly vocal in my dislike for it, but I'm in the extreme minority.

Here's the Geils, but isn't this #9? So we got one more chance for the Nilsson or Teddy or ???

I've got the blues, the reds and the pinks.
One thing for sure...

I mean underrated critically -- "hip" people tend to dismiss it (for precisely the reasons you mentioned) and it often shows up on lists of "worst Best Pic Oscar nominees ever" and I can think of worse movies to get Oscar love.
-
"Honey, I don't want to HURT you, I want to CHANGE you!" Story of my love life.
-
Dave just LURVES Marcia Rodd & Elliott Gould. Brilliant writing by Jules Feiffer.
-
It's getting moldy in here
-
Holy sh!t! OMGWTFBOS of the week to Carly Simon, "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be." Greatest ennui of set!
-
What was the movie clip with the Scotsman getting dumped?
Wow--totally forgot this one--BOS5, Carly, "I've Always Heard That's the Way It Should Be."
-
BOS #-whatever, Carly.
-
Oh thanks Dave, now I'm sad. :'(
BOS, Carly.
-
Do I hear the warmth of vinyl in this Carly record?
ETA: This may be the only acceptable use of the "shelf/self" rhyme in pop history.

This woman is the Old Maid to end all Old Maids, no? Her friends from college have kids who are old enough to "hate them for the things they're not" -- but she still lives with mom. babe, if you haven't learned to be "just me first, by myself" by now, you ain't never gonna...
-
:'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Maybe we should move this to the Movie Thread, but I'm very interested in the other films you'd put on such a list, as this conversation was making me start to compile my own. And of course 'tis the season for such discourse.

Dave wins the Circular Logic of the Month award: 'Divided' is such a divisive word.
can't believe he really said that.

Well, there's still hope for Annalisa to play it--ya think?
Btw, who was you were thinking of that Ellen Foley was married to? I don't think she actually married Mick Jones. And the wikipedia entry I read said she's now married to a writer named Doug Bernstein, who I'm not familiar with.

During the play of Meatloaf'sParadise it first popped in my head that she was married to Robby Benson, but he married Karla DeVito, who played the girl in the Paradise video, while Ellen Foley did the singing!

I always lump Ellen Foley together with Ellen Shipley and Karla DeVito (DeVito toured with MeatLoaf and did that "Paradise" part in the show, and was/is married to Robby Benson).
