Zactly.  They'd clearly been listening to some Village Green-era Kinks at this time.

I missed the definition of a "gomer". something to do with "surprise! surprise! surprise!"?

Maybe if we gave surprises a cool nickname...

we'd get more. I think we should call any song or clip that is new
and out of the blue

a "Gomer."

"Surprise, surprise, surprise!"

I'm glad you bought the cassingle; the rest of the Elemental album was wholly unnecessary (although "Brian Wilson Said" was a great song title).

How's that for reinforcing stereotypes?

I think these Bernie Taupin lyrics are fairly inscrutable, how come it's a Pride set regular?

There's a breakdown on the runway
And the timeless flights are gone
I'm a year ahead of myself these days
And I'm locomotive strong
My city spread like cannon fire
In a yellow nervous state
I can't cut the ties that bind me
To horoscopes and fate

And I won't break and I won't bend
But someday soon we'll sail away
To innocence and the bitter end
And I won't break and I won't bend
And with the last breath we ever take
We're gonna get back to the simple life again

When we break out of this blindfold
I'm gonna take you from this place
Until we're free from this ball and chain
I'm still hard behind the eight
My city beats like hammered steel
On a shallow cruel rock
If we could walk proud after midnight
We'd never have to stop

You can absolutely apply those words to my marriage.  And even more so to my first serious girlfriend.  That's what I meant by inscrutable.  Anyone can read what they want into them.  Unlike Jill Sobule, for example.

If we could walk proud after midnight
We'd never have to stop

Seems pretty obvious to me.

You can absolutely apply those words to my marriage.  And even more so to my first serious girlfriend.  That's what I meant by inscrutable.  Anyone can read what they want into them.  Unlike Jill Sobule, for example.

Well... OK. Elton's written little that's gay-specific, tho', except for "Alice" which as I said is not considered "positive" at this point. I'm assuming it means something to Dave. What year did his partner die?

I'm guessing he was one of the early casualties.  Dave talked about him being sick almost as soon as they got here, and that was '82.  If you got AIDS circa '82-'83 you probaly didn't live to see '85.

Which just reminds me how much I hate Reagan.

I think that's right. I believe Dave mentioned it on his Aidswalk page last year--82 I think, or maybe 83.

And hating Reagan for that is right, too.
