Judge is doing a two-hour salute to the post-Motown Jacksons, including Jermaine solo stuff (th'o he orig remained on Motown as a solo artist during that period).  Jermaine's "Let's Be Young Tonight" -- a fine forgotten single.

Did he play Jermaine's duet with Pia Zadora?  Apparently it was huge throughout Europe.

Sorry, I left after the first hour. But I somehow doubt they did ;)  Gotta love a movie called Voyage of the Rock Aliens, tho'.

They *did* mention "Let Me Tickle Your Fancy" (his collab with Devo) and I was hoping they'd play it before I had to bail. I'll have to dig out the 45 and give it a spin.

another week, another CG retro-countdown: Sept of '78, and despite the presence of "Dreadlock Holiday" at #1 (it failed to make the Top 40 in the US, I'm happy to say), it's a pretty nifty Top 20. Any excuse to hear the Motors' fab "Forget About You" is fine with me.

Quote
1. () 10cc - Dreadlock Holiday
2. () The Commodores - Three Times A Lady
3. () David Essex - Oh What A Circus
4. () Jilted John - Jilted John
5. () Boney M - Rivers Of Babylon/Brown Girl In The Ring
6. () Exile - Kiss You All Over
7. () Abba - Summer Night City
8. () Darts - It's Raining
9. () Frankie Valli - Grease
10. () Siouxsie And The Banshees - Hong Kong Garden
11. () John Travolta And Olivia Newton-John - Summer Nights
12. () Blondie - Picture This
13. () Status Quo - Again And Again
14. () Hi Tension - British Hustle
15. () The Motors - Forget About You
16. () Andy Gibb - An Everlasting Love
17. () Rose Royce - Love Don't Live Here Anymore
18. () John Travolta And Olivia Newton-John - You're The One That I Want
19. () Herbie Hancock - I Thought It Was You
20. () Sylvester - You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)

at #4 on the above chart: "Jilted John" by, er, Jilted John. The sort of punk parody the Brits loved back then:

Checked in with the LI pirate station WMIR -- first time in months; KCDX's player isn't working. And right off the bat: the Records' "Starry Eyes".

WLNG plays the fabulous "When Smokey Sings", truly one of my favorite singles of the '80s.

For the 2nd time this week, Andy Gibb's "Shadow Dancing" -- it was the #1 single of '78 on Casey Kasem's retro-countdown Saturday morning -- which will forever remind me of the South Park ep where Mr Garrison has plastic surgery and comes out looking like David Hasslehoff.

More gems on WMIR: Siouxie's cover of Iggy's "The Passenger";  Tull, "The Whistler"; and The Outlaws' "Green Grass & High Tides".

Casey's first AT40 countdown of the year spins us back to 1971, with B.J. Thomas's "Most of All" at 40 and Andy Kim's revival of "Be My Baby" falling to 39.  And whoa!  "Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved" at 38.  I'd never heard this before -- it's not on any of my JB comps -- and so I didn't realize just how much of a "Sex Machine" retread it is.

Some OMGWTF!s in the Top 20 this week: Ray Price, "For the Good Times"; Lynn Anderson, "Rose Garden"; Supes/4 Tops, "River Deep/Mountain High."  And ask Joe Mama!  "Pay to the Piper" up to 13.

And Perry Como somehow ambles up to 12 with "It's Impossible."  Surreal.

This countdown is really making my morning.  Babs up to 9 with "Stoney End," my favorite vocal performance of hers.

#1 for the week of 1/16/71: George Harrison, "My Sweet Lord."  Still in awe of the slide guitar and the backing vox arrangement on this.

I am SOOOO glad you got to hear the entire 40 -- truly amazing stuff. A treasure trove of you-NEVER-hear-these-songs-anymore mind-bogglers. I'd never heard that BJ Thomas tune, and isn't "Games" by Redeye the best CSNY imitation evah? And the Curtis Mayfield -- hoo lawd! Plus Elvis, the Edwin Starr "War redux", Ray Price, and on and on.

AT40 didn't begin airing in NYC until March of '71 so this was truly a show I'd never heard before. Didya notice the suble difference in Casey's voice? A bit gruffer. It took another 6 months to a year before he got into his sincere/syrupy groove. Assuming KFRC continues the shows, I'm hoping they replay the very first show (July 4th 1970) when the time comes.

Chart addendum: the Harrison is indeed shown as "My Sweet Lord/Isn't It a Pity" thru-out its run. And the Elvis was double-sided too.
