happy B-Day shray -- maybe we'll get instrumentals tomorrow?
In any case, Dave was asking Fogheads this morning to vote for the Partridge Family song they'd most like to hear:
I'll Meet You Halfway
I Woke Up in Love This Morning
Doesn't Somebody Want to be Wanted
only "Halfway" would be a bustout, so that gets my vote (tho' the other 2 have only been played once each)
Gaz?
-
Alas not what we were hoping for, but not bad at all. Hoping for good things.
But! It's been not even two weeks since our last trip to '71--what's up with that?!?

Let's skip "Wanted," it's silly. Er, silly-ER. I vote for IWUILTM. But if he goes with IMYH, listen to the refrain and tell me if it reminds you of Alice Cooper's "You and Me."

odder still: Bob and Dave BOTH repeating the year they did last Monday, today.

I also would not mind hearing IWUILTM.

next week for instrumentals! Cool!
-
"We're gonna try to do it next week" - Mark, does Dave think you're Latino?
-
Next week! Dave said next week! Woo hoo!
And didja hear him send a message to you, Rudy?
ETA: Hope it's the traditional Friday getaway set--I'm outta town Monday and Tuesday.
But BOS to Lighthouse, One Fine Morning.
-
OK Mark, a SECRET message from Dave.
Instrumental on tap for next week.
Super hit 6 Partridge Fam!
-
it's One Fine Birthday Morning, indeed! BOS TOTHK.
-
TANC: I was listening to Lighthouse - and even talking about them in the elevator! - on the way to work this morning!
-

-
Today really feels like a Friday, dunnit?
-

indeed -- with '71 today, what could be in store tomorrow?
"Each planet will be-come our own". Love that line.

Our division's HR guy was in the elevator and was able to hear the Lighthouse horns through my headphones; they piqued his curiosity. Turns out he's a rock fan and went to the R&R HOF museum in December!
-
Happy Bday, Shraytabase, you'll git yer wish next week! And now... some Yes.
-
BOS Roundabout. fond summer camp memories.
-
I'll be the roundabout, you'll be the M-1 motorway.
-
BOS - Roundabout - just because ...
-
OK Mark, a SECRET message from Dave.
Instrumental on tap for next week.
Super hit 6 Partridge Fam!
I have a business partner from Portland with me in the office this am. and I had to interrupt him so that we could hear Dave's intro. Paul said, "Wow, a secret message to you fromthe deejay. Pretty cool!"

The words will make me out and out.

To paraphrase Betty Ford, if the day ever dawns when you *don't* give Yes a BOS, that's when we'll start to worry about you Rich!

Don't forget to turn up SuperHit 6 LOUD during your business meeting!
-
BOS BOS BOS Badfinger.
-
"I remember finding out" that one of Mshray's brothers used this as a wedding-dance song, IIRC.

Good recall. It was Joel, the one you didn't meet yet, who didn't go to college with Davemack. I remember being very impressed with his musical taste for choosing this.
-
Badfinger: I remember attending a BeatleFest in NJ in 1988 and following right behind the two surviving members of Badfinger as we wandered the swap tables. Cool to overhear their memories of the Beatles and late 60/early70's music biz!

Yep Mark, it probably means I'm not listening...
Although there are quite a few Yes songs that I don't really like -- KFOG just never plays them.
-
BOS BOS BOS Badfinger.
making a '71 appearance -- we've heard it in this year, in a January VT as the '72 entry, and once incorrectly in a '73 set!
-
BFOS McCartney.
Listened to this waaay tooo much. Still like it.
-
We're so sorry we cut your budget...
BOS Macca -- the puddin' wouldn't melt, so I put it in the pie (or whateverthehell he says).
-
BOS4 Uncle Albert-- big summer camp memories
-
So Uncle Albert is the fourth song of the set, and it's just starting at 10:19--and it's like 5 minutes long. This is gonna be one long muthaf***in' set--unless songs 6 thru 10 are all 2:20!
-
That's me, ...haven't done a bloody thing all day!

Oh yeah, Paul's cool. He's on our advisory board & I did a big beta test with him all last summer. We've also attended two conferences together. He's mostly down for a meeting at Google, which is only a few blocks away, so I picked him up at SFO & he's just hanging with me until his meeting.

"Butter," I think it is. But one shouldn't pay too close attention to Paul's lyrics, especially when he switches subjects from transvestites to pantry staples.

he can always play "Sunshine" by Jonathan Edwards to make up time.

Super Hit 6 is not going to last very long, iirc.

OK, I'll bite. When does he sing about transvestites (other than Lady Madonna)?
-
Wonder if Cannibal & the Headhunters covered "Timothy"?
-
The butter wouldn't melt, so we spread it on "Timothy". Mmmmm.... coal miners for breakfast!
-
Is this making you HUNGRY for lunch Mark?
-
Joe...and me...and Tim say BOS for the Buoys!
-
Joes have an ignominious history in song. We're murderers or accessories to same here, in "Hey Joe," and in "Run Joey Run."
-

I'm "hungry as hell no food to eat".

"Desmond stays at home and does his pretty face"
"The ring at the end of my nose makes me look rather pretty"
etc.

OMFG!!! The Electric Company theme totally puts this over the top for me.

No No Joe! Killer Joe!
-
BOS-whatever IWUILTM.
"yes it's five o'clock I know but you just LISTEN!"
-
Sing to me David!
IWUILTM!!!!!
BOS!
-
And the consensus is...I Woke Up In Love...very nice indeed.
Serious 10-way tie territory nearing.
-
OMFG!!! The Electric Company theme totally puts this over the top for me.
me too.
-
WTH! I woke up to a song being cut short!
-
most Katrina-ish of Set: Lee Michaels.
-
10 way tie if you know what I mean!
-
most Katrina-ish of Set: Lee Michaels.
Yeah, this is a solid Katrina. But it was also a multiple nominee this morning when the Morning Show was taking calls about great organ riffs/organists.
-
most Katrina-ish of Set: Lee Michaels.
Used to think this song was just two guys--a drummer and a keyboardist, but I guess there is a bass goin' on there, too. Still, pretty stripped down--certainly no guitar. No BOS either--so much for the 10-way tie.
-
Sing to me David!
IWUILTM!!!!!
BOS!
You got it! And now... Marvin Gaye

No wonder Lee hasn't loved her "in nearly 4 years" -- he's always playing with his organ!
Another BOS "Inner City Blues". ah, for the days when pointed social comment was routinely ensconced in the Top Ten.
-
OK, here's the song I'm most likely to vote for: uberBOS, Marvin, Inner City Blues.
-
Richie Havens, cool! 10-way tie?!!
-
and yet another BOS: Sistah Havens, gettin' some sun.
-
OK, here's the song I'm most likely to vote for: uberBOS, Marvin, Inner City Blues.
Scratch that--think I'll vote for Richie Havens--closest to a bustout we're likely to hear. Just once in the DB.

scratch that -- Joni, "california" may be a real bustout.
ETA: actually, only its 2nd appearance.

Closing with one of the elite cuts from Joni's Blue.

I could listen to this LP on an endless loop for days at a time. BOS-infinity

So neither Dave nor Ginger actually played anything I suggested on my actual birthday, but phenomenal sets from both.
-
NOT FAIR. I got called into a mtg during Lee Michaels.
Missed everything else. Dang.
-

Truly. I think I need a cigarette now.

You OK with that? Sounds like affirmative.
(Besides, Dave's gonna deliver on your birthday suggestion next week...stay tuned!)

Totally fine. Especially if we really get an SI set next week. Been a nice day so far, looking forward to lunch with Alicat.

so the Bonus is... "Substitute"?? it was orig released in '66, Annalisa -- just because it was on a GH in '71 is no reason... oh what's the use?

And she copped to the fact that it was on a compilation--wtf? (Admittedly one of the greatest comps ever, but that doesn't excuse the gaffe.)

I just now noticed that they edit the Birthday stuff out of the PM replay -- I know they do that on the weekend marathon but doing it at nite is a fairly new thing, no? In any case, hope Mark wasn't taping for posterity...

the aforementioned Desmond putting on his pretty face
the aforementioned glam-rock dandies in "Rock Show"
I thought the Major was a Lady Suffragette!

This thread is now in the Top 10 most-trafficked KFOG 10@10 threads since we switched over to this board. Woo-hoo!

They do? That's a recent development--I know they've been cutting them out of the Saturday replays (makes sense) but to excise them from the evening replay is kinda silly.
