for those who hate the Crusaders and/or Randy Crawford: Herp Alpert's rather mellow version of "Street Life", which is new to me.

and followed by the ultimate in mellow soul: Stevie's "Golden Lady".

"Pat Boone," he replied with a scowl.

I'll rephrase: "Has any other artist had as many hits with good and/or superior covers of recent (within a year or so) hits?"

OMG!!! Dean plays 10cc's "Life is a Minestrone"!  Highlight of my week, for sure.

I'm dancing on the White House lawn
Sipping tea by the Taj Mahal at dawn
Hanging round the gardens of Babylon
Minnie Mouse has got it all sewn up
She gets more fan mail than the Pope
She takes the mickey out of all my phobias
Like signing cheques to ward off double pneumonia

Life is a minestrone
Served up with parmesan cheese
Death is a cold Lasagne
Suspended in deep freeze

I'm leaning on the Tower of Pisa
Had an eyeful of the tower in France
I'm hanging round the gardens of Madison

And the seat of learning
And the flush of success
Relieves a constipated mind
I'm like a gourmet in a skid row diner
A fitting menu for a dilettante

Life is a minestrone
Served up with parmesan cheese
Death is a cold Lasagne
Suspended in deep freeze
Love is a fire of flaming brandy
Upon a crepe suzette
Let's get this romance cooking, honey
But let us not forget

Life is a minestrone
Served up with parmesan cheese
Death is a cold Lasagne
Suspended in deep freeze

A top Ten single in the UK, tho' it did nothing over here.

Dean's 2nd OMG of the day: "Harper Valley PTA" . Heartland hypocrisy was never more relevant.

DDT-ing for the first time in ages.  Geils, "Love Stinks", most appropriate as we head into Valentine's day.

"I been thru diamonds/I been thru minks" -- I assume that's a reference to Ms Dunaway?

He put one of her minks on a wire hanger and the relationship was over...
