Dean is blowing my mind today. Here's a reggaefied instrumental from 1969 called "Liquidator" by the Harry J Allstars (?) and it features the opening riff that the Staples later used for "I'll Take You There"!

And now another one that's new to me: the disco-poppy "I Love To Love" by Tina Charles (?) which was apparently a UK #1 in '76.  Amazing.

You sure? I couldn't quote day or date or anything like that, but I think we've heard it, although not more than once or twice.

I won't say "never," but it's been a long, long time, if ever.  Indeed, Dave generally avoids '80s Elton, save for the rare appearance of "Nikita," "I Guess That's Why..." and "I Don't Wanna Go On w/ You Like That."  Feh.  Would love to hear his lesser-known charters like "Chloe" and "In Neon."

for MLK weekend, Greg plays Gary Byrd's "The Crown", an absolutely wonderful black-history rap (with help from Stevie Wonder) that came out in '83 or '84. I'd LOVE to turn Dave on to this one, it certainly would be perfect in Monday's MLK set.  A huge hit in the UK and a flop here, even tho' Mr Byrd was a NYC deejay.
