They'd've been eligible in '73, and I've searched for the list of nominees, but I do know Bette Midler won.

Oh, right, the year after, not year of.  Thanks.  Yeah, Bette won in '73, mystifyingly enough (not denying her talent at all, but was she really considered that much more than a fluke cabaret act back then?).

actually, Divine Miss M sold quite well, and produced 3 Top 40 singles.  She was considered well on her way to being a long-term star. And her love of nostalgia/'40s music endeared her to the older Grammy voters.  I may have the list of nominees at home somewhere; I'll check tonite.
