DJ Marilynn's KPOO show today is like a 3-hour version of AL's MLK set. Great stuff so far.
and sure enuf here's Nina Simone (The King of Love is Dead) -- will AL play it too or was posting it on FB a hint that DC disapproved?
ETA: KPOO is just stellar this morning. JB, more Nina Simone, Isleys.

JJ's "on fire" this morning. Otis' "Mr Pitiful" followed by the orig pre-Moodies "Go Now" by Bessie Banks.

1340 just played a soulful cover of "Smackwater Jack" -- no idea who it was but I liked it. And sadly, the guy who did the request show (and was the only live DJ on the station) appears to have left the building.

2NG's retro chart is from Jan 1969 -- say hallelujah!
Tull's little-heard "Love Story" gets a BOSFRA.
Kermit Canned Heat: "goin' up the country, Piggy don't you wanna go?"
OMFG: "Quick Joey Small"!
first of TWO covers of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-la-Da" is NTM: the Bedrocks, a jamaican outfit. I think I like their version better than Marmalade's.
meanwhile, more Englebert impersonators on this chart than you can shake a muttonchop sideburn at. Oh those wacky Brits.

Discovery of the Week, courtesy WDAS in Philly: Jo Armstead, "Stone Good Lover", an R&B hit circa 1968:

she never had pop success but she wrote Garland Green's "Jealous Kind of fella"

In between Etta James songs, JJ on KPOO just found time to do the "Bertha Butt Boogie" -- no question!
