Dave's soliciting suggestions on his blog page. I've already submitted my annual request for "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora.
-
I won't be around to listen but someone should suggest either "Thong Song" or "Milkshake." Or the current "My Humps."

aren't those closer to HFHs? (I'm sure they are to the average Foghead.) Remember, a turkey is stupid... but "good."

mmm, milkshakes....

great avatar -- last nite's PS was genius. As was Drawn Together, which I think is even funnier this year than last.
"Now Tom Cruise and John Travolta are both in the closet!"
-
Thanks! I found the avatar online. "Did you just flip me off?!"
Alas, I missed last night's eps! I taped the recast at 12:30 & 2:30- at least some of it. I haven't had a chance to watch them.
Sounds like it oughta be a hoot!

Hey Mike, someone named ThomasOsborne has requested "Walk The Dinosaur" on Dave's blog comments & I have seconded it. Thought you should know.

yay! Thanks... I thought of it after posting Baltimora and didn't want to post twice. Better to hear "WTW" in a Turkey set than not at all, tho' I have insisted to Dave in the past that it would be a slam-dunk BOS winner in an '89 set.
ETA: Gaz should know that someone has requested "Pilot of the Airwaves" (tho' I wouldn't call it a Turkey) and a bunch of bubblegum including "Tracy" (Cufflinks) and "Jingle Jangle" (Archies).
-
I'll be curious to see how many of the suggestions from the blog page make the set. (I requested Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep by Mac & Katie Kissoon, but I'm not holding my breath.)

And bless you for remembering that one. Haven't heard it in decades, tho' CG plays the British hit version, which was by somebody else.
-
Heads up gang--KFOG is already in pre-set commercial break at 9:53, so I'm guessing this set will start a tad early.
-
OK, "Jungle Boogie" and "Tubthumping" are both fine, tho' neither are on Dave's blog suggestions.
name the actor on the beginning of "Tubthumping" -- and name the movie that clip is from.
-
Don;t know if Jungle Boogie is a repeat, but Chumbawamba is certainly leftover turkey, more than once if I recall correctly.

Don;t know if Jungle Boogie is a repeat, but Chumbawamba is certainly leftover turkey, more than once if I recall correctly.
This is the first repeat from last year, when we heard:
"Mah nah mah nah"
"Gonna Buy Me A Dog" - Monkees
"Tub Tumping" - Chumbawumba
"Hocus Pocus" - Focus
"Double Barrell" - David Collins
"La Vida Loca" - Ricky Martin
"Blue Moon" - The Marcells
"Pop Music" - M
"You Sexy Thing" - Hot Chocolate
"Life Is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me)" - Reunion

Chumbawamba was in a Guilty Pleasure set as well.
-
Okay that's 2 out of 3, which were also 2 of the first 3 last year.
-
He hasn't played the Charles Durning grace bit yet, but I'm sure he's gonna.
-
WOS, Mannamanana. But then, I tuned in late for Jungle Boogie. Bleh.
-
I seem to remember the "mana-mana" song from "The Red Skelton Show" when I was a little kid. They had midgets, painted green, doing weird shit. Those midgets freaked me out, man.

Hooray for playing Mah na mah na again!!
(I really enjoy hearing it once every 365 days....)
-
BTOS - Trio!
-
"Mah na Mah na" belongs in the Turkey hall of fame. I'm determined to see the docu it comes from, Sweden, Heaven & Hell
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063660/
-
trio - what fun!
-
Well, "I Don't Love You You Don't Love Me Uh-huh-uh-huh-uh-huh" wasn't in last year's set, but I think it too is a turkey retread. I remember it from '03. Will we hear 88 Lines About 44 Women too?
-
Da Da Da.... I think the next song should be Na Na Na Na from Zenyatta Mondatta !!

Oops, I mean De Do Do Do De Da Da Da  :D

Hocus Focus Pocus. Why does Dave ask for suggestons and then repeat half of last years' set?
-
BOS Katrinicus Patrinacus!
I refused to suggest it, but it's my favorite Turkey.
Yodeling is cool.
-
This is turning into another Halloween set--the same songs every year in different order. Barely.
-
Hocus Focus Pocus. Why does Dave ask for suggestons and then repeat half of last years' set?
What I don't get is why this is a Turkey.... I love this song (should I admit that??)
-
Hocus Focus Pocus. Why does Dave ask for suggestons and then repeat half of last years' set?
My thought exactly. And we're only halfway thru this year's set, so it might even be more.

Your supposed to love Turkeys. Big dumb birds that they are, they are very tasty. I LOVE Hocus Pocus, but really, it's overblown and silly. But oh so good ...

everybody, all together now: "A turkey is a GOOD record that is nonetheless STUPID." What's stupider than rock'n'roll yodeling?
-
Yodeling is cool.
I'll have to send you my Patsy Montana mp3s...

Hocus Pocus LONG VERSION!!!!! Woo Hoo!!!!
-
I seem to remember the "mana-mana" song from "The Red Skelton Show" when I was a little kid. They had midgets, painted green, doing weird shit. Those midgets freaked me out, man.
Actually, the Muppets did a weird bit to this song on Ed Sullivan.
-
Hey it just occurred to me that one of the best cases for my turkey = your guilty pleasure = his HFH would be "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" by The Darkness.
-
Woohoo! BOS #2, Turning Japanese!
no sex no drugs no wine no women no fun no sin no wonder it's dark

Last year it was the short version, and in the recap Dave said, "After 2 minutes and 47 seconds we totally get it."
-
Woohoo! BOS #2, Turning Japanese!
no sex no drugs no wine no women no fun no sin no wonder it's dark
My favorite line is:
I want a doctor
To take your picture
So I can look at you from inside as well

I'd LOVE to hear that.
Meanwhile not ONE of these so far was suggested on Dave's blog.
-
Blue Swede. Another repeat from 03 I think.
-

But at least it gave Urth the opportunity to idjercate some fool about the difference between Mark Knopfler & the Stranglers!
:D
-
OOOGA-CHUKKA!
Also an erstwhile HFH, not that I'm complaining exactly.
-
Actually, the Muppets did a weird bit to this song on Ed Sullivan.
Then Red Skelton not only ripped off Jim Henson- he scarred me for life and made me fear green midgets. And what about those freaky clown paintings?
I hope Skelton can sleep at night! Well, y'know, if he were alive.

No Way!!! Come On Eileen is NOT a Turkey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(just my humble opinion)

No Way!!! Come On Eileen is NOT a Turkey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the video did them in. I mean- c'mon. They looked like the Lil Rascals on meth...

indeed -- how could you possibly confuse the two?
BTW, does anyone remember "Down in the Bunker" by the Steve Gibbons Band"? came out around the sane time as "Sultans of Swing" and many folks thought it was Dire Straits.

Poor old Johnny Ray
Sounded sad upon the radio
He moved a million hearts in mono
Our mothers cried and sang along and who'd blame them
Now you're grown, so grown, now I must say more than ever
Go toora loora toora loo rye aye
And we can sing jsut like our fathers
Come on Eileen, well I swear (what he means)
At this moment, you mean everything
With you in that dress my thoughts I confess
Verge on dirty
Ah come on Eileen
These people round here wear beaten down eyes
Sunk in smoke dried faces
They're so resigned to what their fate is
But not us, no not us
We are far too young and clever
Eileen I'll sing this tune forever
Come on Eileen well I swear (what he means)
Ah come on, let's take off everything
That pretty red dress Eileen (tell him yes)
Ah come on Eileen
-

I am shocked -- SHOCKED -- that Red Skelton used the theme from an X-rated movie on his show. Did he even know?
-

I always thought he was saying "Take off your dress/ Your face is a mess".

Probably. Hell, he probably SAW the movie and went- "well, that'll work!"
How come Red Skelton couldn't be cool- like Red Buttons. Red Buttons rules.
-
Mickey is definitely a turkey.
-
Wow- y'know, "Come On, Eileen" is even worse when you read the lyrics. Damn. Well, that's what you get from a group named after speed.
-
*sigh*
another wasted opportunity.
granted, many of the posters were unclear on the concept, but no suggestions were used in the making of this 10@10.
-
I could swear 80 percent of this set was in the 03 Turkey set as well. Now I gotta go home and see how much I'm remembering correctly and how much is delusion.
-
Mickey is definitely a turkey.
and also another recycled HFH.
-
Well, Happy Turkey Weekend, to all! Don't forget to get yer football picks in BEFORE tomorrow!
-
Bonus: Annalisa promises a "Belgian Turkey" could it be... Plastique Bertrand?? Oh please yes!
-
"Ca Plane Pour Moi" - Annalisa rocks!

From Belgium to"Jermaker" -- she's rockin' around the world.
"Jermaker?" "No, she wanted to!"

OK, I'm half deluded. Today's Turkeys had four songs in common with the 11/27/2003 Turkey set. Here it is:
Da Da Da I Don't Love You You Don't Love Me A-ha A-ha A-ha-Trio
Mah-na Mah-na - From the movie "Sweden: Heaven and Hell"
Jungle Fever-The Chakachas
Where Have All The Cowboys Gone-Paula Cole
Shake Your Bon Bon-Ricky Martin
Hocus Pocus-Focus
Tubthumping-Chumbawamba
88 Lines About 44 Women-The Nails
Teddy Bear-Elvis Presley
Pop Muzik-M
And for comparison's sake, here's today:
Kool & the Gang - Jungle Boogie
Chumbawamba - Tubthumping
Mah-Na-Mah-Na
Trio - Da Da Da (I Don't Love You, You Don't Love Me, Aha Aha Aha)
Focus - Hocus Pocus
Vapors - Turning Japanese (Best Turkey of Set!!)
Lipps, Inc. - Funky Town
Blue Swede - Hooked on a Feeling
Dexy's Midnight Runner - C'Mon Eileen
Tony Basil - Mickey
BONUS TRACK: Plastic Bertrand - Ca Plane Pour Mois
And from Darryl's 10@10 log site, 2002:
11/27/2002 - Wednesday! Today is Turkey Day on 10 at 10!!!
1. Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
2. Sweet - Little Willie
3. Marcels - Blue Moon
4. Lipps, Inc. - Funkytown
5. Chumbawamba - Tubthumping
6. Beatles - You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)
7. Taco - Puttin' on the Ritz
8. Hot Butter - Popcorn
9. Tokens - The Lion Sleeps Tonight
10. Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting
-
went out to Izzy's for our son's 28th birthday (oy!) and am watching Goldeneye whilst listening to Turkeys. Long version of Hocus Pocus on now. I hope everyone has a nice T-day; we're going to drive all the way to Clovis and back tomorrow.
-
Did a quick search thru the old Yahoo groups message board and was able to reconstruct some earlier Thanksgiving Turkey sets--or parts thereof--not a terribly complete recounting in 1999, but there was some good debate on what constitutes a turkey that year, fueled by our old pal Rasztrelnikov. It turns out that the 2003 set listed above is a classic that originally aired the day before Thanksgiving 2000.
Wednesday and it's the 19th Annual Turkeys on Parade
11/21/2001
Vapors - Turning Japanese
Marcels – Blue Moon
Mah-Na Mah-Na (From the movie "Sweden, Heaven & Hell
Total Coleo - I Eat Cannibals
Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy
ABBA - Maxi Mix!!
Trio - Da Da Da I Don't Love You You Don't Love Me Aha Aha Aha
Clarence "Frogman" Henry - Ain't Got No Home
Spice Girls - Wanna Be
They Might Be Giants – Istanbul Not Constantinople
2000-11/22/2000
See 11/27/2003 above
11/24/1999
People Who Died-Jim Carroll (?!?)
Hocus Pocus-Focus
Da Da Da-Trio
Hooked on a Feeling-Blue Swede
Mah-na Mah-na and the Trio songs seem to be the biggest turkatrinas of the bunch, but the Chumbawamba and Focus are way up there too. Maybe time to retire them to the Turkey the Song Hall of Fame?
-
They Might Be Giants – Istanbul Not Constantinople
That was especially appropriate, since Istanbul is *IN* Turkey!
I seem to recall that the 2003 rerun, oops, "classic" was actually run during the "variety show" on Thanksgiving Day afternoon. There was also a year -- 5 or 6 years back -- when Dave eschewed the turkey set in favor of "Artists We're Thankful For", voted by Fogheads.

I think that was what aired on Thanksgiving day last year.
