KPOO's deejay Marilynn is devoting most of her blues show today to the late Koko Taylor. We pitchin' a wang dang doodle, y'alls.

Coolest thing on Little Steven's Nancy Sinatra tribute: her distaff cover of the Beatles' "Run For Your Life", taking the Fab Four's oft-criticized-for-misogyny lyrics and turning the tables.

So of course I wanted to post "Some Velvet Morning" as well, but I didn't expect to find this fabulous clip, from a 1967 NBC TV special (!)  Wow and wow.

That honestly may be the strangest Top 40 hit ever.  Lee Hazlewood was a hell of an outsider artist insofar as he actually had hits doing so.

pretty great clip.  I first heard "Hey Cowboy" on KUSF a couple years ago and loved the tune.  When the deejay said it was Lee Hazlewood, I was like wha...?

I admit I didn't know much at all about him, and here he is singing w a Swedish woman about being an actual cowboy in Sweden?? ... how the heck did this happen?  anyway, got hold of the other tunes from the record, then got his stuff w Nancy, and love it.

Wow, you know how much I love both of those.  That Platters tune is part of my someday wedding mix.  They were definitely wearing Levi scrubs.

I once tried to map out a sketch-comedy piece about a talk show hosted by two indier-than-thou types.  The kind who think Pitchfork is a sellout.  Both way on the mascara'd, fey side, might as well be drag queens.  Their names: Tuppy and Saucy.

The sketch, alas, went nowhere.

'LNG just played a Cowsills milk commercial from '69 or so. NTM and it's fun  -- Gaz will love, methinks

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKyOFokccRQ

and now it's the Reflections "Romeo & Juliet" for the 3rd time in 24 hours -- I never knew the Motown "Funk Brothers" are the backing band on this! (I always thought of it as a very white record).

ETA: 15 minutes later we get the 'sills again, goin' to "Indian Native American Lake"

Holy Flaming Mother of Pop! 'LNG just played "Johnny (Baby Please Come Home)" by Darlene Love, yes it was, er, repurposed as "Christmas (BPCH)". but "Johnny" was the orig and was NTM. The identical track, only the lyrics changed. Amazing!
