so somebody take notes!

TOTHK - Orleans "Still The One" - 1976 (preceded by
McDonald's Burger King "have it your way")

TOTHK - Orleans "Still The One" - 1976 (preceded by McDonald's "have it your way")
I still remember this song being used by ABC (I think) for a long time, to promote their shows. Never knew it was anything other than their promo song until much later...

Carter edges out Ford in the election ---> Genesis "Dance On A Volcano"

Great segue... :)

It's provided the tag for numerous ad campaigns over the years, but yeah, ABC is what I always associate it with.

Now *this* is the kinda set I've been hoping for from AL.
BOS1 and 2 to Genesis and JB.
-
Lawrence Welk ---> Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "Rockin' Around (With You)"

great set so far!
my only nitpick was allowing the newscast to obscure the EXCELLENT opening to Dance On A Volcano.
When I saw Genesis (in 82), they opened the show with DOAV. I nearly plotzed.
-
Uber-BOS Flo & Eddie, Keep It Warm!
Almost requested this (I know she played it once before, in her earlier tenure), but decided to hold my cards.
-
Graham Parker "Heat Treatment" (RGMike scores!) ---> Happy Days ---> Flo & Eddie "Keep It Warm" ---> news report ---> Al Stewart "Year Of The Cat"

I remember that tour -- saw it at the Greek. That was the last time they included the full Supper's Ready in the show -- and I *did* plotz.

The inclusion of both the James Brown and Flo & Eddie tracks would seem to indicate that AL has recovered sufficiently to make it down into the basement and plunder the vinyl archives.

Plymouth Volare --->
Neil Young The Stills-Young Band "Long May You Run"

Plymouth Volare into Stills/Young Band, Long May You Run
Re the Plymouth: Wishful thinking. But a nice segue.
-
Alka Seltzer ---> Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers "Roadrunner"
-
And the hits just keep on coming!
Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers, Roadrunner (still under consideration as the Massachusetts state official rock song).
-
The Bad News Bears ---> The Runaways "Cherry Bomb"

I was going to guess that Roadrunner was the end of the set, but guess not.
Another killer segue: Walter Matthau and Tatum O'Neal in Bad News Bears into Runways, Cherry Bomb.
-
Excellent set today. I'm going with Roadrunner as my BOS, though I could have gone lots of ways.

Somehow we missed Graham Parker's Heat Treatment, between the Petty and Flo & Eddie tunes. Mike got his request, and wasn't here to hear it, as he predicted.

I heard it but didn't know what it was called, so remained mum.

Same here. I had it as "sweet dreamer" until I heard AL's backsell. Just fixed it.

'tis the way of the world. But I'll catch up tonite; sounds like a good one and I *adore* the Flo & Eddie tune -- the last time she played it, I was on vacay in NYC.

So, through 9 sets in AL's second era:
3 Good-to-Outstanding sets from the 1970's
1 Fairly Decent Theme Set
2 Relatively Weak 80's sets
2 Very Weak 90's sets
1 Rather Weak 00 set.
Pattern?

'twas ever thus, at least once DC came in. (Well, OK her '80s sets then were better than that, and she did '86 and '87 the past 2 weeks, and they tend to be lackluster.) We'll see how much New Wave from the "record cellar" she gives us when she does '82 or '83. By the progression above, her first '60s set outghta be phenomenal ;)

It's the Curse of the KFOG format from late '80's on. I wonder if any powers-that-be at the station (besides Constantine in his heyday) put pressure on the DJ to be so format-friendly, or if the DJ is playing to perceived audience expectations, or, heaven forfend, that's the s**t she actually likes best.
I didn't listen to today's show, but the set list is wicked awesome.

On FB, AL sez the Runaways get BOS over Flo & Eddie and Al Stewart by a single vote.
