As always, the first hour or so is full of lesser-heard goodies.

VHM Dr Hook's ode to sloppy seconds. BOS1 Donny Osmond's surprisingly fine remake of "C'mon Marianne" -- one of his best 45s, IMHO.

Oh, irony: this story about Neil Sedaka pretending not to be married at the same time he was pretending not to be gay.  "Stepping Out" is quite the forgotten 45.

And 1550 is playing last week's '73 show again for some reason. Ooops! BOS2 one of my fave Ohio Players jams, "Who'd She Coo?" WOS Wild Cherry; Casey misidentifies it as "Play THE Funky Music".

VHM Chicago's "Another Rainy Day in NYC" -- the first single from that LP and a relative stiff. But then "If You Leave Me Now" became their first #1. Love the story about Steve Miller's broken neck. BOS3 Tavares' fantabulous "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel"; BOS4 Ree-Ree's "Something He Can Feel", one of her best vocals and the fact that it only got to #28 is criminal -- never understood her mid-'70s chart struggles.

"I'm not talkin' 'bout the linen..."

"WOW!" of the Week: this Canadian extra by Gordon Lightfooot, "Black Day in July", a song about the 1967 Detroit riots. NTM, amazingly.

VHM Natalie Cole -- "Sophisticated Lady" is one I like more now than I did then. BOS5 as I get ready to head out: the Carpenters' lovely "I Need to Be In Love". Sadly, KFRC's screw-up means I can't hear the next hour or so in the car; I'll get '73 instead.

Back for the Top 6:  EJ tells Kiki "don't go breakin' my balls" but bustin' makes her feel good.

Afternoon's a delight but moonlight feels right!

Dan Ingram used to do a great bit with the spoken intro to "Kiss and Say Goodbye". "the principal called me into his office on the last day of school..."

And '84 starts with a BOS for Robin Gibb's unfairly forgotten "Boys Do Fall in Love" -- has it really been a year since we heard this last?  And BOS2 Ms Lauper, she-boppin' -- boys fall in love, but girls play with themselves, apparently.

Ah ay-um da wah-wee-uh! Your eyes touch me physically. er, eww.

"If This Is It" gets a VHM, mostly for the video and hometown connection.

I forgot how much that Sergio Mendes song sucked.  This Glenn Frey isn't as bad...the lyrics are pretty atrocious though.

WOS3 Starship. yikes, they put out some seriously dreadful singles in that decade. "No Way Out" sounds like something Journey turned down.
