I was thinking that 1974 was overdue, and also a good candidate for the Tuesday after a 90's set....and I was RIGHT!

Oh hallelujah!!!
But we've already had THREE really good ones today
...and "Rebel Rebel" makes its 2nd appearance. Hot Tramp!

Those of us who "look divine" are calling everyone else a tramp, that's who!

Hey Ali, we all sent good vibes on Friday, anything worth reporting?

Cousin Oliver, so they made you a Star!
BOS Stealer's Wheel.
-
Welcome cousin Oliver...into Stealers' Wheel's Star. Dave's got it in for Robbie Rist, it seems.
-
BOS #1 "Star", which was maybe a Katrina a while back, but Dave hasn't played it in over a year and a half.
-
"On the shelf" rhymes make me cringe, but BOS to Stealer's Wheel anyway. IT WASN'T OLIVER'S FAULT!!!
-
So who was saying Dave had never played this?
(Btw, he has--earlier this year even.)
-
LOL! "School" again! -- so is this a Morey bustout or was I mistaken?
-
BOS #2 "School". only it's 2nd Db appearance.
-
So who was saying Dave had never played this?
(Btw, he has--earlier this year even.)
I stand corrected. But if Dave copies Bob a third tiime all bets are off.

Y'know, that would be a great practical joke--for Rob, Bob, Ginger and Dave to all play the same set on the same day--or even successive days. But we'd be about the only ones to get the joke.
-
BOS2 to Joni, "Trouble Child": Dave hasn't courted & sparked in quite some time!
-
BOS2 Joni.

For those of us who missed the Drive today (with early vote results):
Bad Company - Movin' On 4.2%
John Lennon - Whatever Gets You Thru the Night 14.3%
Kiki Dee - I've Got the Music in Me 13.4%
David Bowie - Rebel Rebel 9.2%
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Don't Ask Me No Questions 3.4%
Dave Loggins - Please Come to Boston 16.0%
The Rolling Stones - Dance Little Sister 4.2%
Supertramp - School 12.6%
Grand Funk Railroa - The Loco~Motion 7.6%
Eagles - Best of My Love 15.1%
I wouldn't have predicted Dave Loggins jumping out to the early lead.

and boy is Alejandro pissed!

It's the first time anybody's played that one, afaik -- must be the novelty.
-
damn! I was hoping for "Twisted" with my "Trouble Child".
-
My My -- at Watergate Dick Nixon did surrender!
VHM ABBA.
-
Abba makes me dance.
-
Spoo-doop, Spoo-doop! BOS3 to the Joneses, "Sugar Pie Guy."
-
Abba makes me dance.
ah, but now here's some real (early) disco: "Sugar Pie Guy (Pt 1)" BOS3.
Spudda-da-budda-da-budda!
-
SH6 has me stumped--Barry White? Teddy/Harold & the Bluenotes?
-

for shame -- Dave's played this several times, iirc.

Totally don't know it. Sounds a little like Barry
-
Sucker for electric pianos and interesting harmonies that I am, BOS4 to "She's Gone."
-
oo! H&O get a BOS4 from me -- "She's Gone" in its orig year of release.
Everybody's high on consolation.
-

Damn, you are correct. Twice in fact, once in 05 and once in late 06--and I have no recollection of either. I am indeed chastened.
(Although looking at the dates, I think I was on vacay in NY when the 05 occurrance came up.)
-
OK, pop quiz. "She's Gone" is eligible in both 74 and 76, and the Db has 96 sets from those 2 years. How often has this song appeared? (No peaking Urth!)
-

So I'm not sure of the chronology: H&O released it in '74, then Tavares had a minor hit with it, and that led H&O's to be re-released?

I really don't like Hall and Oates, but this song still holds up well. It's funny though, since I love puns, but I don't think songs should be based on them.

4 or 5? But if ya count the Tavares version...

I'm gonna guess 2x in '74 and 3x in '76. Seems like Dave prefers "Abandoned Luncheonette" when he reaches for them in '74.

BOS5 Match Game: Watergate Edition!
-
BOS, Any Major Dude.
Dude!

Atlantic re-released it in '76 after "Sara Smile" hit for RCA and they were suddenly hot.

The answer is zero! The only time this song has appeared is in a single VT from last November, as the '76 entry.
And fwiw, "Abandoned Luncheonette" has been exclusively a '73 entry (5 times).

BOS5 Match Game: Watergate Edition!
It's amazing in these times that a president could be so roundly disparaged on such a bland stage as a TV game show. Can you imagine Pat Sajak or Simon Cowell capping on Bush like that now?
-
oooga oooogaa
i can't stop this feeling!
-
ooga-chukka! VHM and Cheeziest of Set, Blue Swede.
ETA: worst mangled lyrics this side of the Love Affair cover of "Everlasting Love"
how "I'll just stay addicted/and hope I can endure" morphed into "I'll just stay a victim/If I can for sure" is beyond me.
OMFG! BOS n+1 Stevie!!!
-
Blue Swede! Always fun. BOS for the Dan though.
-
BOS5 to Stevie, "Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away." I had this on repeat in the days following 9/11.
-
Switching to Stevie -- BOS

Very good point. The bared-teeth hounds of the far right wing successfully terminated that kind of discourse, as MoveOn.org found out the hard way (and that 12-year-old who was Swiftboated over S-CHIP).
-
wow -- GREAT bonus choices ("Sneakin Sally Thru the Alley", Tom Waits) but the Foghead goes with Zappa's "Cozmik Debris". I'd've been pleased with any of 'em.
-
10/30/2007 - Tuesday! Great set!! 1974!!
1. David Bowie - Rebel Rebel
2. Stealer's Wheel - Star
3. Supertramp - School (BEST OF SET!!)
4. Joni Mitchell - Trouble Child
5. ABBA - Waterloo
6. The Joneses - Sugar Pie Guy, Pt. 1
7. Hall & Oates - She's Gone
8. Steely Dan - Any Major Dude
9. Blue Swede - Hooked on a Feeling
10. Stevie Wonder - Heaven is Ten Zillion Light Years Away
BONUS TRACK: Frank Zappa - Cosmic Debris

anyone else catch the bungled replay last nite? Smack in the middle of Stevie, up popped Annalisa with an "Archives 14" promo... lost the rest of the song and the backannounce. I almost recorded last nite -- glad I didn't, I'd've been PISSED.

I didn't but if I had, I sure would have been. Pissed, that is. Wonder if the Saturday marathon will also include Annalisa? That'd be a drag.

Played correctly on the Saturday replay.

and Praise da Lawd for that. But once again the best set of the week (by far) led the marathon at the crack o'dawn.

I think I woke up hearing Joni. No rest for the wicked, eh? Hoping to sleep in on Sunday but not sure what time football starts. Off to nfl.com next.
