Shatner (the past tense of "shitner")

Thanks Mike!  that was a literal LOL moment.

Can we pick a WOS for HFH? This Britney cover seems like a copout choice.

It's an old Alex Bennett line -- always happy to recycle it.

Ok, I haven't heard this version of "Light My Fire". Now that I have, I want to go back to bed.

Is this Tammy Faye Bakker?
Let's get right to it.

Who would want to cover a song so wretched?

Exactly! That's the better question, imho.

As most of you know by now, this was a soundcheck recording that got released to the fan club & eventually wound up being (stunningly) their highest charting single by far.  All of that is pure fact-is-stranger-than-fiction stuff.

But like Mike says, WTF were they doing playing that horrible song under any circumstances!?  Unlike Cartman or (maybe) Sinatra or certainly heavy metal Pat B., there is no sense of irony here at all, and this is just the polar opposite of the kind of earnestness Vedder can pull off.
"Music is the Earth, People are the Flowers, and I am the Hose."

I do agree that this Tiffany cover is particularly awful.

I forgot (thankfully?) that this was Mae West.
the ending of the song showed off her trademark patented sexy Mae West cadence.  That was fun, if a little disturbing.

ok, this one ain't bad.  Debbie Gibson?

I suppose I could Wiki it, but wasn't this intended to be a benefit song of some sort? I would agree that they could have found something better to cover.

"I Think We're Alone Now" is, (again, imho) a victim of astonishingly bad over-the-top produciton values that were about 4 yrs out of date.   In different hands this could have been a good-if-not-great cover.

It's Tiffany. As far as I know, Gibson never covered anything. Except, regrettably, herself.

Vedder wasn't yet born when the original was first a hit in '64; he would've been 9 when it was re-released in '73. So it doesn't even make sense that it'd be on his radar, much less a song he liked so much he'd sing it for his own enjoyment. (Unless his parents had terrible taste.)
