as per usual on a Thurs, the RIAA thang is in effect, but you can get in thru Geoff's "back door" WM link.

Oh, good.  I had resigned myself to Deep Tracks on the assumption of lockout.

I didn't check to see if they posted the setlist in advance like yesterday -- did they?  (Don't spoil any surprises if they did.)  Predicting some Aerosmith and something from Court & Spark.  Also Bowie seems likely.  But I'd rather hear John Denver or Gordon Lightfoot today, weirdly enough.

don't know if you heard the interview on KFOG earlier, but this guy has written a book called "Popstrology" -- he says you can chart your life using not the stars but the songs that were charted on your birthdate.

Amusingly enough, I got that book as a present last month.  The author was on Micky Dolenz's morning show earlier this week.  I'll be happy to provide the popstrological charts for anyone who provides me the birthdate info.

Argh.  Popstrology that precedes the Billboard chart era (1956) is beyond the author's (and thus my) purview.  Sorry, Geoff.

(The author made a special case for Micky, born 3/8/45, declaring him to have been born under the Andrews Sisters.)

I'd forgotten Dave Mason did a version of "All Along the Watchtower". And with good reason.

I guess Dave was actually in the studio for the recording of Jimi's version, thus a sort of pedigree, or 'right to play' this song!

I feel just the opposite way -- I abhor this song in all its incarnations, and it seemed a particularly cynical attempt at a hit for the Cat man.

On the other hand, a big ol' BOS2 to the Mistress Kiki, who gets a hold of her blues and just plays them.  I feel butcher already.

Yeah, he needed a hit and a cover always works. But why hate the song? too much early-'60s sexism?

Oh, it's not even close.  Kiki had one of the greatest fake-endings ever.  Sam, you know, I hate to shoot a cannon at the canon, but I just dislike everything about his voice.  I find his style overmannered and his lyrics painfully corny (yes, they were of their time; but no, I have never been of that time).  Cokes in the icebox?  Yawn.  Much of his repertoire exists in my worst-of list, including "Saturday Night," "You Send Me," "Cupid," and "Having a Party."

NOT sam cooke. NOT sam cooke.
and that comes from a cat fan. i hate his version of that song. hate it. it sounds like carnies gone awry.
here's bowie for those who guessed!
but bos to kiki. my boss came to talk to me about "old school," (which i watched last night, at her suggestion), so i missed the coolest part of the song - the intro.

i think i have to return my card now. when gaz wrote "I feel butcher already," i thought he was using rhyming slang, so i looked up "butcher's hook," but decided that didn't make any sense ("look"). then i just assumed i missed some inside joke...

so you mean, butcher, as in butch? :) i'm so slow...

I've seen that bit, it was quite hilarious. And oddly sexy... but I digress.

The word is that he's a jerk, the KFOG crew have said that a number of times -- he was supposed to be on one morning and they were given a list of things he wouldn't do (one of which was apparently "be funny").
