the best Motown Monday is KHUM IMHO, although today it's interspersed with local political candidates given air time.

I'll switch over after the Drive does '67.

Some lady running for city council, talking about how the homeless are there because of bad choices, and it's just too bad, but not her fault.
"back in the depression, we didn't have all this..."

I bailed on her -- cranky old Libertarians do not make for good radio!

Good thing the Drive '67 set didn't include the Cowsills' "Newspaper Blanket"!
I won't get into how much we can thank Reagan for the homelessness problem, though Shray's welcome to quote from "The Clothes Have No Emperor" if he sees fit.

Yeah, the DJ was a little taken aback, trying to be fair.

The "dirty blues" lady on KPOO is playing a song called "Please Warm My Weiner". LOL!
-
Somebody subbing for Judge today, not that you can realy tell, musically speaking. Johnny "Guitar" Watson, "A Real Mutha For Ya"!
-
Lowell Fulson, the orig version of "Tramp" (Otis & Carla came later).
"Mama was... papa too!"
-
Bailed on a VERY long-winded interview on KPOO and clicked on KCDX in time for Frampton, "I Wanna Go To The Sun". Haven't heard this in ages.
followed by the loooooooooooooong version of CCR's "Grapevine" cover.
-
Now I'm on to WLNG, and it's "1-2-3 Red Light", David Byrne's fave 1910 Fruitgum Co song.
-
back to KPOO, and it's some old live Temptations LP: their take on "Impossible Dream". Pure Vegas.
-

No shit, long-winded. I came back from lunch around 2, it was still going on, left my headphones sitting on the desk while doing a few other things, hoping they'd finish up. Finally bagged it some time after 2:30. Jeez, their audience must have been down to zero by then.

I'm picturing the host begging Judge to let him do the show this week: "Man, I got an interview with STEVE ARRINGTON!!" And Judge saying "Yeah , sure, whatever, go for it". But lawd -- you interview for 10 minutes, play a few tunes, interview some more... not 90+ minutes of phone-quality Q&A with a guy who just goes on & on & on. "Let me tell you about the day I met Coke Escovedo..."
-
checking in with KPOO before haeding over to the Drive, and it's Laura Lee's fab "Women's Love Rights".
"Love who ya wanna
'cause a man is sure gonna"
-
TANC: 2 days after Gaz posted about it, here's Eighth Day, "You Got To Crawl Before You Can Walk".
and -- OMG! -- followed by "Bring The Boys Home", aka "Vietnam With Violins" as Christgau once famously quipped.
-
Meanwhile on KPOO, JJ plays early 100 Proof, "Too Many Cooks".

Another nursery-rhyme theme? I hope the song was at least about group bukkake.
-
oh my! Fancy Miss Nancy Wilson, "Guess Who I Saw Today?"
-
VIP today, and it looks like they've (finally) got their "now playing" feature working again on the player.
-
New to me: Archie Bell, "Where Will You Go When the Party's Over?", a very good O'Jays imitation -- sounds like they stole the backing track from "I Love Music".
-
Rod the Mod (when he was good): doing his very nice cover of "Oh No Not My Baby".
-
VIP is re-running last week's hour featuring that new Rhino Soul Box.
"Sookie Sookie"!
-
"find out whatchoo been missin', sugah!"
highlight of the afternoon: J-5, "Mama's Pearl".
-
Highlight #2: Candi Staton's cover of "Nights on B'way".
-
over to KCDX and -- GodDAMN! the Pusher man, Steppenwolf.
And goddammit, I just missed 10cc's "Life is a Minestrone"!!
-
a real nugget: Procol Harum, "A Salty Dog".
-
"and now... to sing this lovely ballad... here is... Mama Cass..."
-
3DN get their Argent on.
-
TANC: weren't we talking about Nick Lowe songs Dave never plays? here's "Switchboard Susan"!
when I'm with you girl
I get an extension
And I don't mean
Alexander Bell's invention
-
now there's a segue: From "Court of the Crimson King"... to Carole King (en espanol, por favor, "Corazon").
and followed by Ms Benatar, "Invincible"! Which sounds rather Madonna-ish to me now. Am I crazy?
-
WOW -- Tim Hardin's orig version of "Simple Song of Freedom", famously covered by Bobby Darin.
-
ooo! Buf Springfield, "Nowadays Clancy Can't Even Sing" -- I have still not heard the Carpenters cover of this, but would love to.
-
Melanie's laying down her candles in the rain. Lovely.
-
10cc, "Art For Art's Sake", one of their great early singles.
-
George not only digs love, he loves dig!
and appropriately, he's followed by obscure Badfinger, "Perfection".
-
and the afternoon ends perfectly with the Eagles, "The Last Resort", surely Mr Henley's finest hour before going solo.
-
'CDX-ing: rare ELO ("Mr Radio") followed by Yes, "And You And I".
-
TANC: Dean on CG plays an obscure Stylistics song ,"16 Bars" (a hit in the UK but not the US). New to me. Nice trumpet solo work by somebody.
-
TTD on CG: the sublime "Sign Your Name".
-
Unit 4 +2, their follow-up to "Concrete & Clay": "You've Never Been In Love Like This Before", a new one on me.
-
OMG! Alison Moyet, "Weak in the Presence of Beauty". Haven't heard this in eons.
-
closing out the CG portion of my day: Matthews' Southern Comfort's lovely take on "Woodstock".
-
OMGWTF -- WLNG pulls out a Gilbert O'Sullivan Double Play! "Clair" and the overlooked "Out Of The Question".
-
Frankie Valli, the orig Jersey Boy, "Swearin' to God".
-
CGSS: the always delightful Joe Tex novelty, "Ain't Gonna Bump No More With No Big Fat Woman" -- the looong version.
"lose some weight
and we might have a date"
followed by Tavares' even more delightful "Whodunit"?
"fer cryin' out loud!
somebody call McCloud!"
-
I can't get the player to connect fer cryin out loud.

CGSS is killing me with goodness.

Luckily KRSH is up and functioning here.
Leading off with The Harlem Shuffle, followed by 99 and a Half Just Won't Do--woo hoo!!

thanks for the reminder!
but re: CG, their player only works in "low quality" mode, the "High" level stream has been kaput since before I went on vacay.
oo! "Really Sayin' Something" and it ain't the Bananarama version.
-
wow, for the second time this week, Eighth Day, "You Gotta Crawl Before You Can Walk"!
-
Freda Payne, "You Brought The Joy" sounded esp good today.
wow, it's Brenton Wood's *other* hit, "Oogum Boogum."!
-
JJ Jackson, "But It's Alright". For years I thought the JJ Jackson on MTV was this guy, but they were 2 different people.
-
Good gosh-a-mighty now! Staples again, "Heavy Makes You Happy"! I'm in Soul Heaven.
and followed by the fab Flirtations, "Nothin But a Heartache" y'all!
-
Seven Rooms, that's all it is -- Seven Rooms of Gloom!
but the stream keeps slowing down like it's being played at the wrong speed -- even Greg, who is presumably live. Weird.
-
Rolly-coaster redux on CGSS -- and of course Gaz is absolutely right!
-
VIP Beach Music Friday: Viola Wills' version of "If You Could Read My Mind", which presumably predates the dance version from the 54 sndtk (and I'm guessing they stole the idea from her, since her version never charted, afaik).
