I just posted on  FB this:

Funny how the Cure have a reputation as a dark & goth-y band, when one of their most widely known (and admired) songs is this excellent and most uplifting love song.

Just Like Heaven and Friday I'm In Love are in that same vein: cheery, positive, exuberant, joyous love songs -- and they're probably their best selling, best-known hits.   Yet most people (probably) think dirge and goth when they think "Cure."

Technically, "most people" probably think of the Cure as cheery for exactly this reason -- because "most people" know them mainly for Just Like Heaven and Friday I'm in Love (& Lovesong).

My 2 least favorite Cure songs!

I'm with you on "Friday I'm in Love," a perfect example of why Robert Smith has no business attempting to be happy.  Otoh, I find "Just Like Heaven" not bad & "Lovesong" is fine in the context of Disintegration, but doesn't really hold up outside of that, in my opinion.
