well, KPOO's still not working for me, so I'm doing KOMY's oldies feed again, and again they're quite impressive: GrassRoots, "Lovin' Things" followed by BoxTops, "Sweet Cream Ladies" and my absolute favorite 4 Seasons song, "Opus 17".
-
Tommy James slurpin' some Sweet Cherry Wine.
-
hey hey mercy, woman! Monkees, "Listen to the Band" OMFG!
-
new to me: "Roses and Rainbows are You", apparently a pre-3DN Danny Hutton, from what i've been able to Google. Gaz, can you confirm?
-
another lesser-played 4 Seasons tune: "C'mon Marianne". I really gotta see Jersey Boys.
and another OMG -- Johnny Rivers, "Summer Rain"
-
Bummer that your player is still OTL. Judge's been playing a realy nice set--Major Harris's Love Won't Let Me Wait a few minutes ago, and now it's the Pointer Sisters How Long (Betcha got a Chick on the Side)--both great, both long unheard to my ears.
ETA: Followed up by Grandmaster Flash, Rapper's Delight.

I'm baffled as to what the problem is -- but I must say this KOMY oldies feed is a major find -- Gaztastic, in fact (as I write they're playing "12:30" by the M's & P's). I'll have to ask Geoff if he can figure out a "back-door" way of avoiding the KPOO player and using a generic WMP (as he has with KFOG and The Drive).

Judge is rockin' The Message.

Don't. Push. Me. 'cause I can't hear the STREAM!
But I did get to hear "Soul Deep" on KOMY.

Indeed. It's on their 2-CD greatest-hits comp that I reviewed for AMG a few years ago:
Celebrate: The Three Dog Night Story, 1965-1975 (http://"http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:nfkzu3rgan2k")
Title's just "Roses and Rainbows."
Damn, you rattled off some SERIOUS faves of mine today. I need some free time to check this stuff out.
-
Back to KOMY, and y'know, I joked yesterday that it was "Gaztastic" but it's like they're inside his head! Here's The GrassRoots, "Wait a Million Years" followed by Paul Revere, "Kicks".
I just ordered a fine GrassRoots Best-of from Amazon for 7 or 8 bucks (yes, the real thing, not the must-to-avoid re-recorded-versions CD that's floating around.) I also finally went for a complete Hollies collection by ordering the Epic Records Anthology (everything from "Carrie Anne" to "Sandy" for only $2.49!) and a British collection of all the early stuff for 7 bucks or so.
-
More Gazziness: Monkees, "Words".
-
from Gaz-tastic to Morey-riffic: Flirtations, "Nothin' But a Heartache".
followed by Lloyd Price, "Personality". Tony Orlando did a nice shoulda-been-a-hit cover of this circa '75 or so.
-
KOMY is getting a tad repetitive: I'm hearing a lot of songs I heard yesterday and Monday. But here's an Elvis tune I don't think I've ever heard, "I Gotta Know".
-
"Just Once in My Life", a forgotten Righteous Bros hit. I forget whether this is Spector or imitation-Spector.
-
i'm all yours, mike. where to now?

I'm baffled - their player never opens WMP on my end, it's a unique stand-alone custom player. You went thru their website, right? Not Geoff's links?

"hold your head up" is another european rarity. though, on the whole, european is much better than american radio, if only for gomers.

if you're going to scratch a cat, it's good to have fleetwood mac nearby. though the beginning of "you make lovin' fun" sounded an awful lot like "do it again" to me. but maybe that's because i just listened to the dan.
-
rarely heard John Lennon, "Move Over Miss L".
-
Hope Amelia Waite-ed around to hear The Babys, back on their feets again.

a long-forgotten nugget: Charlie, "Johnny Hold Back".

OMFG! Charlie Daniels, "Uneasy Rider", back before he BECAME the very sort of narrow-minded redneck he makes fun of in this song.

Did you ever hear his/their 1980s revisiting of the song, in which their further adventures find them in a gay bar? Hilarity ensues. And by "hilarity" I of course mean "menacing homophobia."
