or so sez the promo I heard last nite. Woo Hoo!
-
Early predictions:
(wildcard) Bill Deal & the Rondells, "May I"
(surething) Diana et al, "Someday We'll Be Together"
(hopeful) anything from Donovan (dare I hope for "Atlantis"?)
(doubtful but desired) Mercy, "Love Can Make You Happy"

If your Diana prediction is correct (and I'm betting it is) that could make it the #1 Katrina of all time.

Been meaning to mention, he's booked into Slim's in April. Tix on sale Sunday. Not sure what to expect. Could be good, could be not.
-
"Israelites" -- if this wasn't a Cap-trina, I'd be very excited. HM anyway for mondegreen value.
Touch me in the palm, you sound your alarm. WHA???

Who? Donovan? or Bill Deal?
BTW, urth, you lucked out -- my record keeping is spotty, but in answer to your email, on Jan 30th 2004 we visited 1970.
-
VHM to Mr. Dacres talkin' bout the Lost Tribe.
WOS (surprise!) to "Hot Smoke & Sasafrass." Mike, I have no idea what you see in this song. Seriously.

Neither. Desmond Dekker & the Aces.
Really.
And thanks for filling in my missing data. I'll try to post my recap later today, but we're short-handed here so it may have to wait til the weekend.
-
early BOS: Hot Smoke & Sassafrass! Gaz how can you hate something this cheezy?
I think Ram Jam shoulda covered this as a follow-up to "Black Betty"
BOS2: Tony Joe! Chomp Chomp Chomp!
-
Gators got yer granny...
-
BOS - Tony Joe White
"a wretched, spiteful, straight-razor totin' woman!"
Lawd ha' muhhcy.
-
VHM to Mr. Dacres
is that a contraction of "Dekker" and "Aces"?
-
The Elvis cover of this is sweet, too. It's featured in that movie of one of his Vegas concerts. Elvis forgets the lyrics halfway through and simply walks to the back of the stage (still in full view of the audience), pulls out his notes (a folded piece of paper), reads it over for a few secs and then jumps back into the song.

That's his real name, Desmond Dacres. I guess they felt "Dekker" would be easier to pronounce for the non-French.
And gee, how long til POC gives BOS to "Compared to What?"

Not very, I'm thinking. This is the version she likes too, Les McCann (as opposed to Brian Auger.)
-
oh!! bos - compared to what! the original!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even shorter than I thought, obv.
-
so, you know, this is my favorite song of all time!
this concert was filmed, as well as recorded. in the film, ellafitz walks in about halfway through this song. the camerman pans from the stage to capture her entrance. she waves at the band, and sits down. at the end of the song, les introduces ella to the audience. everyone starts clapping. ella stands up, and say, 'please forgive me for being so late!'
now THAT's class.

I thought I remembered reading that this is one of those songs written with him in mind that he originally turned down... and then began covering in concert after it was a hit for somebody else. There's another that's on the tip o' me tongue...

VHM Thundercalp Newman. Is this album still in print? Another song from it, "Accidents", got quite a bit of Prog FM play at the time. Haven't heard it in 30 years, easily.
-
Something in the air was there, and then it wasn't!
-
abrupt segue!
the bag with your "medicine" heheheh.

Brown acid is just bad news in general. Only blotter for me!

Taking a guess, but is that "Until It's Time for You to Go"?
-
Beatletrina: "Oh Darling". In which they channel/rip off/pay homage to Charles Brown. Oh please come home for Xmas, darling.

Mmmmm, purple microdots for me. Or Windopane.
BOS, the Beatles (yay)
I missed most everything else til now.

No. But it'll come to me eventually.

Yeah, it's all that and more. One of my favorite Beatles tunes. When I was young me and my buddies used to sing it around the campfire. There may have been drugs and alchohol involed.

HM to Booker T & the MGs' "Time Is Tight," though I far prefer "Hang 'Em High." There's just not enough tension on this one, not enough resolution, just kinda loops around itself -- the same criticism I have of the Crusaders' instrumental I forget the title to.
-
now it's time for gaz' favorite upshiftcoda!
-
the Crusaders' instrumental I forget the title to.
that would be "Put it Where You Want It". Ever hear Sly's 15-minute "Sex Machine"? (NOT the JB song)
-
BOS to the Rascals, "See." Used to be a Dave fave back in the '90s, but I haven't heard this much in recent years.
-
"discover who you really am"
i don't know who this is, but it's rocking, too. swell set, morey!
-
BOS to the Rascals, "See." Used to be a Dave fave back in the '90s, but I haven't heard this much in recent years.
the rascals?!?!?!?!?!? as in, the brigatti brothers?
-

Urgh. I dislike "Sex Machine" almost as much as the Airplane's "Spare Chaynge." Long rock instrumentals almost always bore me. It's the only sour spot for me on the whole Stand! album.
-
"discover who you really am"!
you beat me to it. It's the Rascals, anyway. Towards the end of their career.
"come with me and see my love so we can never die"
-
who gets the delightful digit?
i love it. my new line.
-
Dear Diary,
Heard a Moody Blues Katrina today...

still quite nice.
but not: the nice
diary of an empty day.
or whatever.
-
Wow... a '69 Morey set WITHOUT "Someday We'll be Together". It's a sign of the apocalypse, I tell ya!
-
Gaz, will you follow me to CG Soul Spectrum?
