That's an even bigger stretch than my line about same-sex love in "Jailhouse Rock".

On the other hand, from the TV medley: "Wait'll you see my gidget!"

BOS2: Los Bravos, "Black Is Black."  Always loved Mike Kennedy's wail.  Anyone else here ever hear his solo single "Louisiana"?  Stunning shoulda-been-a-hit.

Why yes.  And she was thrilled that it was made a hit by Mexicans who became German expats.

Meanwhile, BOS3 to the Four Tops, second time I've heard this today (first was on Micky Dolenz's oldies morning show).

While I'm old enough to have dug this tune when it actually was in the top 40, I never knew anything about them, their names, or any other subsequent ripples they may have made in the pond of music.

the beginning of 'standing in the shadows of love' just elicited a big hands-in-the-air-palms-up-raise-the-roof from me. then i realised i was at work, and put my hands down.

Title: Los Bravos info from songfacts.com

just because it's on the web doesn't make it true, but:

"Los Bravos were a Spanish quintet. They are one of the few Rock groups from a non-English speaking country to have an international hit. Lead singer Mike Kogel's voice sounded so much like Gene Pitney's that many listeners assumed that "Black Is Black" was a Pitney single.

A French female disco group called La Belle Epoque recorded this in 1977. Their version hit #2 in the UK. (thanks, Edward Pearce - Ashford, Kent, England, for above"

Paint it, Black is Black!

always a VHM for Mick.  Too bad about his Oscar "snub", tho' I really didn't consider it a snub.

the song he wrote with Dave Stewart, from the Alfie remake, won the Golden Globe last week but was not Oscar-nommed for Best Song. And some writers have talked this up as a "snub" but the movie and soundtrack flopped. I think KFOG played the tune (a Mick and Sheryl Crow duet) for maybe a week.

Mick didn't get an Oscar nom for "Old Habits Die Hard," his collaboration with Dave Stewart on the Alfie soundtrack.  A good song, to be sure.

Agreed. A nice bounce-back after yesterday's paint-by-numbers set.  But hey, ya can't be inspired every day.
