ETA: speaking of kicks -- Bob's gonna play "Kicks". Paging Gaz!
-
TOTHC: BBs, "Wouldn't it be Nice?" and it certainly is.
Followed by "Sunny Afternoon". FYI, Ray Davies will be playing the Warfield in July.
-
OMG! early, Byrds-like Grassroots: "Where Were You When I Needed You?" BOS. Dig that harpsichord! (or is it an electric piano?)
-
the mind mixes up here. Grassroots? Turtles?
must drink coffee

That's who I woulda bet a buck on, who wrote this Dylanesque tune?

That's hilarious. It wasn't until I was halfway thru my first cup that I realized no sound was coming out of my headphones. I'm here now...
-
this is shaping up to be a killer set!

Not quite a jinx, but we're on the same page.
-
I'm thinking "Mother's Little Helper" is the "anti-drug song from an unlikely source" that was hinted at pre-set. if so... no "Kicks", I guess.
-
Bob just LOVES those "Great Shakes" commercials! Am I the only one who actually remembers this product?
-
"So thick it stands up to a straw." By god, I think I remember that, which is from my preschool years.
-
from that great black New York band!

The set list is running early, get ready for some little heard Supes!
Damn, it already started. Must learn how to type faster.

They sold the plastic "shaker" real cheap and then they expected you to buy the packets of powder, to which you added milk. It wasn't bad, but not as good as Borden's "Frosted Shake", which came refrigerated in a can. Mmmmmm...

And here's the swingin' Supremes for Vagisil!
-
Holy Montage, Batman!
-
BOS, Batman!
and Robin, too.
-
I fondly remember buying the Batman Theme and Ballad of the Green Berets at the Woolworth at the corner of Market and Powell. I loved that record section.
-
BOS2 a lovin' spoonful of "Nashville Katz". He owned a kosher deli.
-
BOS of the whole week: The Batman Medley.
"I won't waste any time telling you how glad I am to have finally heard that."
-
been playin' since they's babies!
-
Damn this set is winding up nicely. A little Blonde on Blonde to wrap.
-
Dylan's "I Want You"
what a freakin' great song.
-
BOS2, this very Dylanesque track...
Iwant youu.
-
Bob's had a very impressive week. Kudos!

Autumn Almanac - Oct 1967
Wonderboy - Apr 1968
Days - Jul 1968

per the UK chart db, it reached #2; "You Really Got Me", "Tired of Waiting" and "Sunny Afternoon" were all #1's. But I suspect it may well have been their biggest seller.

A while back you posted a list of the all-time UK top 100, and I clearly recall that this was the highest ranked Kinks tune.

I'm sure you're right -- it probably spent more time on the chart than the others. I certainly never tire of hearing it! And if you've actually stood on Waterloo Bridge at sunset, you hum that song for, like, a week afterward.

Bob just LOVES those "Great Shakes" commercials! Am I the only one who actually remembers this product?
At last year's EMP Pop Conference, the wonderful Douglas Wolk gave a presentation on the history of Coke jingles. He made a CD with about 50 different versions, on which he threw in a few Great Shakes jingles for variety (the Who and Dusty Springfield, among others). I really need to play this disc for y'alls sometime.
Sorry I didn't get my Kicks. Filling in at the Voice today.

The Coke commercials CD used to be commercially available -- released in time for some Coke anniversary about 10 years ago -- I'll have to see if I can find it on Amazon. Surely there's a similar one around for Pepsi. I have a Rolling Stones Rice Krispies commercial at home somewhere too.

just checked -- it's out-of-print and going for upwards of 58 bucks (!) on amazon. Shoulda grabbed it in '96 when I saw it at Tower...
