Wow!  Urth, you been drinking my bitter serum?  That was impressive.

LOL.  In fact I did a double take when I realized that was Urth's avatar & not yours next to that post.

Check out this Newsweek series of articles & related videos.  Every election Newsweek detaches (literally) a handful of reporters who go out onto the campaign with the candidates 24/7, but who aren't allowed to report anything until after the polls close.  They get access & deep background that you can't find anywhere else.

(if nothing else, be sure to see the video clip at the top of the first page - pretty damning version of the Palin wardrobe dustup)

Nice find.

Two top eds at Newsweek (Jon Meecham and Evan Thomas) appeared on Charlie Rose soon after the election hawking their just pub'd "Obama is elected" book (akin to what Gaz just edited for Time, Inc.).  Some good insights:

and speaking (as we were earlier) of Mormons:

the Salt Lake Tribune reports...

Quote
"Updated election results released Tuesday show that Salt Lake County voters favored Barack Obama over John McCain -- but just barely -- marking the first time in decades that a Democratic presidential hopeful won the state's most populous county. With the addition of more than 29,000 provisional and late-arriving absentee ballots, President-elect Obama scored a come-from-behind victory over McCain. The county's official election canvass didn't change the outcome in any other race."

"The final result gave Obama a 296-vote victory, which equates to less than one-tenth of 1 percent... The updated election results have no impact on who won the presidency or even on Utah's five Electoral College votes, which easily went to McCain. But Obama's Salt Lake County win sure meant a lot to the leaders of the Utah Democratic Party, who watched President Bush win the last two elections by a margin of more than 20 percentage points in the county. 'It is a huge step for us,' said party Chairman Wayne Holland."

Holy crap: Illinois governor arrested --among other things, he is accused of conspiring to sell Obama's now-vacant Senate seat to the highest bidder!

I was in Chicago in Oct & heard locals there complaining that he was slimy, even though he was elected to be a clean alternative to the former governor Ryan, who is currently in prison on various corruption charges.  Ryan was a Republican, to neither party gets to point many fingers at this point.

If you'd like to see a little more about Chicago politics & get a heads up on how this might still ultimately touch Obama (hint, it'd be through Rahm E.), check this article from the Chicago Tribune's version of Phil Matier.

this coulda gone in the "Gossip" thread, I suppose, but it makes a nice coda to the campaign and the year: Bristol Palin had her baby. A boy named... Tripp (did you expect anything less?)

No truth to the rumor that grandma on daddy's side sent a gift basket of OxyContin...

The latest from Minnesota! The recount is done (for now) and Al Franken leads by 225 votes! Of course, Coleman's camp promises to file suit, but at least Al's got him on the ropes.
