And I-ee-I-ee-I will always looooove... you-know-who. Looks like we'll be getting our Whitney.
-
MM's requests: Hold On My Heart and Tears In Heaven. Maybe it's SRW's mellow sibling.

TANC: Rob's playing the Crapton tune in a '92 set on the Peak as we speak.
-
wow, Richard Lewis twice in one week. Let's not overdo it. Happy Happy Joy Joy, indeed.
VHM Cracker.
-
"What the World Needs Now" is 20. The mind reels.
-
Since I never check in on fb at night, would somebody please request "Detachable Penis" for me next time '92 rolls around?
Happy happy, joy joy...

consider it done!
VHM mouldy Sugar.
-
it's a shame about LNs.
-
BOS Lemonheads, led by the handsome Evan Dando.
It's a shame every song isn't this catchy.

"Kerosene Hat" came out in '93. I'm guessing "What The World Needs Now" was played.

LN2: Gin Blossoms.
-
BOS "Master of my domain"
unexpected VHM "Move This"
-
This beat is Technotronic! Points for rarity, though I only know this as a makeup commercial theme.
-
LN2 or 3: BNLs. But not *real BNLs, that's cruel.
-
Rush could teach this Canadian band a thing or two. 8)
-
BOS Move This! I requested Snap!...but this'll do just fine.
-
Barenaked Ladies fall into the camp of "liked them when it was fresh, but it sure hasn't aged well".
-
VHM LL.

Barenaked Ladies fall into the camp of "liked them when it was fresh, but it sure hasn't aged well".
yes, esp that song.
Lyle Lovett sounds Loverly compared to the BNLs today.

Geddy should teach them to... "Take Off!!"
-
WOS Lyle Lovett; nothing personal, I just don't like this kind of music.

Rush, on the other hand, holds up quite well, except for perhaps "Roll The Bones" (but which would fit this set well).
Coming soon: An FB post on ten big hits from the late 80's/early 90's that are all-but ignored by radio today.

uber-LN: Toad.
-
The Fixx : '80s :: Toad the Wet Sprocket : '90s
-
VHM to LL.
Fixx>Toad, in my opinion.
-
The Fixx : '80s :: Toad the Wet Sprocket : '90s
So ... one things leads to another?
-
if we get a Bodyguard clip but not an actual Whitney song it would be cheating.
VHM Annie L. This hasn't been bad, exactly, just very pedestrian.
-
VHM to LL.
Fixx>Toad, in my opinion.
I agree w that. But the Fixx were popular when I was glued to the radio. By the time Toad was hopping around, I moved away from listening as much. And Toad is way mellower than the Fixx, who had a real edge.
I saw them open for the Police in 83

ha! I was gonna post in the KFOG thread today that
"Wild Wild Life" : today's KFOG :: "Rocket Man" : the old KFOG.

I can't honestly BOS or even VHM "IWALY" -- it's horribly overwrought, with a Barry Manilow-on-steroids production. Everything that was wrong with the pop of that period. But it *HAD* to be played, so kudos AL.

Thank you. Have to say I really hated the song at the time. I might give it a D/A.
-
well, 2 major POP bustouts in one set is kind of amazing, considering. And one the other day from Neneh. Ya takes what you can gets.

yes, it was never a song I liked. I did like How Will I Know, for instance, which is really catchy and poppy. This diva style never got me, yet I like her voice.
Seems like AL got a little choked up at the end there, and despite NOT really liking the song, I kinda did, too.

Whitney was talented, but I could barely get through The Bodyguard. Horrible movie, but it was video and my wife wanted to watch it.

glad you mentioned that. badly as she wanted to follow the Streisand/Diana Ross template, the fact is that as an actress ... she was a great singer. If you watch that movie carefully you can see how it was edited to disguise the fact that she couldn't really act.

That's a pretty obscure show to be so easily available on the Internet. I mean, Rochester, c'mon? Is there a database of ticket stub images?

While Rochester may have seen better days and isn't on anyone's must-see list, it was big enough for the Police to bring their Synchronicity tour there for some reason. I think the populace all came into the town square near the Genessee brewery and sacrificed goats and Kodak Disc cameras hoping to entice the unsuspecting rock stars to the little burg. ... and it worked! The yokels are still talking about as they scarf down chicken wings.. :) (actually, that's pretty true, I mean *I* brought it up, didn't I?) It was a big deal.
It was also a fairly big show, held in what you would call a mid-sized stadium. Hollader Stadium has since been torn down (it was built in 1949 and it was crumbing). The stadium held 20,000 for football games, and for the concert probably 10-15k more people filled the field (think Kezar). So with all those attendees, it's not that surprising that a ticket stub was easily findable on the Google.
btw, here's a site that offers scads of ticket stub images, although it seems you have to pay for access???

Thanks for the detailed response! Sounds like an awesome show. I probably should have inserted an emoticon somewhere in my post. Didn't mean to snark on the 'Chester. I had a college friend from there. She pronounced umbrella "UMbrell-ahh" instead of "umBRELLa."

I bet she bought a lot of IN-surance.
