insert Crapton "I Can't Stand It" joke here. WOS1. Meanwhile Sting has a big enuf... umbrella.
AAAACK! "Sausalito SummerNight" -- in Chicago? Wait -- is there an extra verse here? I don't recall that "root beer/to boot, dear" rhyme. WOS2 in any case.
And now a song written by Wynonna Judd's high-school boyfriend: "tempted by the fruit of your mother"
BOS ZZT, making their 2nd 1981 appearance in a week, this time with "Pearl Necklace".
And speaking of 2-timers: WOS3-in-perpetutity Loverboy.
AAAACK!2 WOS4 Triumph's truly dreadful "Magic Power"
Seafood Mama Quarterflash have a hard-on in their heart. Or something.
AAAACK!3 WOS5 Styx with too much bad songwriting on their hands.
Damn, this was painful...

NOOOOOOO! I'm going to use my "Free Will" and bail on another Bob-in-the-'80s set that starts with Rush. Jeezus fucking Christ on a stick.
and this has made me do the unthinkable -- listen to KFOG in the 8:00 hour (luckily, Tim Goodman's on today talking up the 2nd season of Treme).

Do you think Bob creates monstrosities of his own "Free Will" or is he hamstrung by is PD? Or maybe just the MOR preference of his audience? Seems to me he used to do better sets--like, 5 years ago.

Bob has a database of songs (that he and whoever was PD 10 years ago created) that he is required to pick from and has to get permission to play anything off-base. (I remember he did a '66 set the day after Skyy Saxxon died but couldn't add The Seeds at the last minute because the PD was out-of-town!) When he started doing the show it was all '60s & '70s years and he had a decent amount of pop & soul mixed in, including "oh wow" stuff like Cher and Starland Vocal Band. He's even played the Carpenters one or twice. But when they started adding '80s years to the mix, it seems like the consultants took over.
And yeah, The Sound, also owned by Bonneville, appears to use the same database of songs for their 10@10s.

Bob begins with the anti-TOTHK: "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Artie G was never lovlier. BOS1.
And Chicago was never Katrinier.
Rap-a-rap-a-rap, they'll call me Donnie Iris in 10 years.
WOS my least-fave Tempts trend-jumper. I still say that they wouldn't've recognized psychedelia in 1970 if it bit them on the ass.
No question: BOS2 and proxy of shray, Moodies, "Question".
"War" is good for... a VHM.
CSNY arrive with a fave mondegreen of mine: "I dreamed I saw the barbers riding shotgun in the sky" -- yeah, I know it's "bombers" but my 15-year-old mind figured barbers were riding shotgun because they hated long-haired hippies.
BOS3 EJ, taking it to the pilot. To resurrect an old Johnny Carson line "he's had his hand in more pilots than a Air Force proctologist".
BOS4 little Sir John.

Coulda done w/out Norman Katrinabaum. But what I wouldn't give to hear "Canned Ham".
Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water
Chicago - 25 or 6 to 4
Jaggerz - The Rapper
Temptations - Psychedelic Shack
Moody Blues - Question
Edwin Starr - War
Crosby, Stills & Nash - Woodstock
Elton John - Take Me to the Pilot
Traffic - John Barleycorn (Must Die)
Norman Greenbaum - Spirit in the Sky

Fri 4/22/11: 1988
Yeesh & Sheesh: I'll be damned if I'm gonna subject myself to Bob's THIRD '80s set of the week, and on a Friday no less. Ugh.
and just in time for my vacation next week: they're doing "The Drive A-to-Z" starting Wed.
U2 - Angel of Harlem
Cheap Trick - The Flame
Bon Jovi - Bad Medicine
Steve Winwood - Roll With It
Van Halen - When It's Love
Traveling Wilburys - End of the Line
R.E.M. - Stand
Poison - Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Moody Blues - I Know You're Out There Somewhere
Eric Clapton - After Midnight '88
Y&S indeed. Glad I stayed away.
