Radio in the Sierras
« Reply #60 on: June 15, 2005, 10:28:15 PM »
Truckee's KTKE-FM is totally cool, in an eclectic way that would never work in a big town.  I have heard all kinds of strange segues, from U2 to Country Joe to Count 5, and very raw and seat of the pants.

In Reno, there's a BOB FM, which sounds cool too, playing the Clash, UB40, and lots of other stuff I don't remember.  They make a point of saying they're not owned by Clear Channel, or any other large corp.

Now Max 95.7 is playing "Thunder Island". The song DOES exist outside of 10at10!  :D

This morning, flipping channels while KFOG went to commercial, I heard Max doing their self-promo of people calling in saying how great they are, but the last caller (female) said, "Bring back 95.7 The Bear!  I can't stand all this crap!"   Then the Max voice guy said, "I feel your pain."  Then the caller continued, "I couldn't believe it when I turned on the radio in my truck and heard all this crap!"

Then the Max voice guy said, "I smell your pain."

the Max voice guy

aka "J. Peterman" from Seinfeld.  I find him way annoying, but that was a good line.

And he played Loni Anderson's new husband and step-dad to... wait for it... The Mullets!

His character was a gameshow host. Heh.

I had the MAX on the other day in the car.  They've been playing a bunch of promos featuring callers telling us how much they like the new station.  One was particularly telling:

It blows KFOG out of the water.  It's like 10 @ 10 all day long!

I would beg to (vigorously) differ with that person. I hope KFOG doesn't let the tail wag the dog.

Are they all named Max?  That'd be cute, like all the Donnas being named Donna.

Or maybe not.

I kind of feel guilty knowing that too. Means I've been listening. I also noticed tonight the KUFX (98.5 KFOX) has a new promo saying we play what you want (vs the we play anything we want). It was preceded by a recorded caller mentioning Zepplin and other classic rockers. The radio wars heat up.

Just checking my email and I'm on the MAX mail list. Must be leftover from the Drive, the Bear, now MAX.

Hello Ali:

(the following are checkboxes)
Name the radio station after myself.

Shop for obscure albums on eBay.

Pad expense report.

. . . must I do everything around here?

Finally, a little help:

Max FM welcomes Teri King, now on the air weekdays from 10-2. You'll like her. Great voice, knows the Bay Area, knows the music. And smart as a whip — in our interview, the usual game of Chutes and Ladders, she kicked my butt.

I'm exhausted. Can I go back to Belize now?

Love, Max

streaming MAX on iTunes
« Reply #74 on: July 06, 2005, 10:18:59 PM »
I prefer the  quality of  iTunes streaming, and it's real easy.  If you have iTunes (free!) just go to the Advanced menu, and select "Open Stream..."

Then just paste http://209.237.251.148:80 into the box, and go!  You shouldn't need to 'join' their club or anything.  Here is the current stat on how many people are listening:

Current Stream Information
Server Status:   Server is currently up and public.
Stream Status:   Stream is up at 48 kbps with 4 of 600 listeners (4 unique)
Listener Peak:   152
Average Listen Time:   2h 10m 02s
Stream Title:   95.7 Max, San Francisco
