Hoo Lawd! Judge gets cookin' with Cheryl Lynn, "Shake it Up Tonite", also a CGSS fave.
-
OMFG! Teena Marie, Portugese Love"
-
More "History of Black Radio" from Judge -- NYC's WRKS (aka "Kiss") from 1981. And we're promised a Jermaine Jackson mega-set at 3pm.
-
Before our Jermaine Jackson Special, Judge spins Grace Jones "Pull up to the Bumper in your long black limousine" (nudge-nudge, wink-wink)
-
Another fab retro-chart show on CG: Oct 1966. New-to-me hits include Sonny & Cher's "Little Man", Georgie Fame's cover of "Sunny" (!) and Roy Orbison's "Too Soon to Know". Yet to come: Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick & Tich! And OMG here's Bobby Darin getting hip with "If I Were a Carpenter"
-
Hooray for WLNG, the only other place besides 10@10 that I ever hear the Montanas' "You've Gotta Be Loved".
-
Bomp-she-bomp and oo-wee-oo: WLNG plays the Chiffons' fab "I Have a Boyfriend", also a Little Steven fave (he has probably played it more than any other song in the 3 years I've been listening to his show) that I barely remembered before he re-impressed it upon me. Now it's one of my very favorite girl-group records.

Followed by a lovely underplayed BeeGees hit, "Love, be tender with my fanny", er I mean...
-
Whinyface Elliman's lovely cover of "Hello Stranger" from '77.
-
and one for Gaz: Spanky & OG, "Lazy Day".
-
Another Partidge gem this week: WLNG plays "Doesn't Somebody Want to be Wanted?"
-
Someone at 'LNG likes the Critters: yesterday, their cover of the Spoonful's "Younger Girl"; today, "Mr. Dieingly Sad".
-
switched over to CBS-FM in time for Frankie Valli's fabulously cheezy disco version of "Our Day Will Come".
-
Checking in at CG, but man, I wish their player's volume wasn't defaulted to "max"--every week it comes on just blasting.

guess they assume their target demo is a bit deaf from 40 years of listening to RAWK.
ah, Dusty -- "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me".
-
Whoa--Sweeney's tracking H&O's Family Man--one I've been after DM to play for awhile now.
-
NO IDEA who just did that "Honey beats Your Kisses" tune, but I totally dug it. And now here's H&O, "Family man"! Sweeney's cookin' today.
-
Hoo Lawd! what sounds ike a 12" mix of the Staples' fab cover of "Slippery People". I have the 45 at home, but this is terrific.
-
Gimme yo' stuff! Yo' sweet funky stuff! Rick James on CGSS. Followed by the Fab. Yoo. Luss. Crown Heights Affair, sailing across the galaxy.
-
JB sez it's too funky in here! Funkety funk! Funk funkety yeah!
-
KFRC's Casey's Top 40 this week comes from Nov. 19, 1977. Currently at #26 with "Slip Slidin' Away"; I missed the week's debuts, which included "Baby Come Back," "You Can't Turn Me Off (In the Middle of Turning Me On)," and "Sentimental Lady."
-
There's something very unsteadying about Judy Collins' "Send in the Clowns" and the Commodores' "Brick House" back to back.

That Judy, she's a brick house all right.
Heard the first hour, left for work just before Barry's "Daybreak", which i'll catch on the replay tonite. But it was fab to hear the Carpenters covering Klaatu.
-
Wow! flashback of the day (so far): Rita Coolidge's very nice cover of Boz's "We're All Alone".
-
The Mighty Pope? NOPE! it's the Paul Nicholas version of "Heaven on the 7th Floor"!
-
these current commercials Casey's doing for Bose headphones are quite jarring in that he sounds SO MUCH OLDER. Compared to his 1977 voice, he sounds like he's about 80.
-
Casey, what a big surprise! Chicago at #5, just ahead of the Bee Gees.
-
Quite the contrast between the #2 and #1 singles: #2 is Heatwave gettin' down with "Boogie Nights", while at #1 for the umpteenth week... it's... NOOOOOOOOOO!!! IT CAN'T BE!!!! Yes, the Whitest. Record. EVAH. Debbie Boone, "You Light Up My Life".
-
OMGWTFLOL: Debby Boone's 6th week at #1!

on its way to 10 weeks, iirc. Scary.

Hey Mike: The rest of Dave's replays don't wow me, so I'm listening to Felix Hernandez @ WBGO. He's currently playing some Billy Stewart that's new to me. Don't know the title -- "My Heart's an Open Door," maybe? -- but it's an uptempo Marvin Gaye-ish thing that recycles "Summertime"'s thrilling trills.

Thanks for the reminder -- I've been meaning to check out Felix, and this is a good opportunity. No idea on that tune, but their website has a "just played" feature that seems to be working just fine
-
one of my fave forgotten Stevie tunes: "Hey Love".
-
And now songs of "thanks" -- not a turkey in the bunch, I'll wager.
-
Day-um! Maceo Parker's cover of Sly's "Thank You"!

Alas, I'm listening via iTunes, which provides no such insight.
That Bettye LaVette "Thank You" was pretty!
-
OMG! One of the 3WS deejays used to sign off with this "Thank You and Goodnight" song in the middle of the night; I haven't heard it since the early '90s!
-

Ah, OK, just checked, I think it was "To Love to Love" that I was groovin' on.

FYI, I've switched over to CGSS for the duration (I've got another 2 hours here before I can go home).

I was wondering about that: Do you always work Saturdays now?

Greg plays Kid Creole's fab "Annie I'm Not Your daddy" ('cause if I was in your blood/then you wouldn't be so UGLY) Anna-Anna-anna-matta-peeya!
-
Bill collect-ahs at Gwen Guthrie's door! A fly girl like she, needs securi-tee!
-
Dionne experiences "Deja Vu", courtesy of Isaac Hayes. As long as he doesn't make her experience Deja Xenu.
-
OMG, Stevie again, with "If It's Magic", which I haven't heard in eons.
-
Hoo Lawd! Greg ends my 5-1/2 hours of OT by playing Millie Jackson's fantabulous "Hurts So Good".
-
Catching up with what I missed of Casey's Kountdown this AM: Peter Brown's amazing "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me", which I haven't heard in many years.
-
Mike, you asked on another thread whether Barry Scott's Lost 45s was being pre-empted now that WODS in Boston has gone all-Christmas for its oldies. Answer is: Barry's doing all Christmas songs tonight (and presumably for the next few weeks?). Some interesting oddities, but I don't know if I can take this much Christmas.

Damn, I wish I'd known -- I have a CD of a "Lost 45s" Xmas show from the early '90s that's a delight. But how many Xmas oddities can he play for the next 4 Sundays? Moonlion's disco "Drummer Boy" is great... once a year. But not 4 weeks in a row.
BTW is your new quote from Space Jam, one of the worst movies of the '90s?
-
BTW is your new quote from Space Jam, one of the worst movies of the '90s?
No, it's from a FOAF's blog, one of the most intricately esoteric pieces of rumination I've yet seen on the Web. I found the culture collision wonderful.

But it IS a Space Jam reference, no? (Bill Murray and Bugs Bunny are both in that film.)

This show ain't for everybody... only the hungry people...
Little Steven's opening set for his Thanksgiving show included Little Eva's "Let's Turkey Trot", Rufus Thomas' "Funky Chicken", The Beatles "Your Bird Can Sing" and --OMG! -- The Time, "The Bird".
