KPOO's DJ Marilynn is all over the map today: some blues, followed by Floyd Cramer's country piano instrumental "Last Date", followed by "HR Pufnstuf"!  maybe Marilynn's been, er, puffin' stuff!

turns out Judge is sitting in for Marilynn, who went home sick. (From puffin' all that stuff, I guess.)

OMGWTFLOL! Judge plays Rockwell's justifiably forgotten follow-up to "Somebody's Watching Me" -- "Obscene Phone Caller".  Where is he now?

and now Lisa Lisa's tears are burning up the pillow-- she's "All Cried Out". Judge is really unearthing the lost '80s today.

this has been Judge's most entertaining hour in ages: Stevie's "Go Home" followed by the MJGs, "In My House". Hope the '80s-fest continues.

He's making up for being MIA so much recent weeks, with those substandard interviews and all.

followed by New Edition teaming up with Ray Parker Jr on "Mr Telephone Man". And it's a NE twin-spin: "A Little Bit of Love" is lovely. I am in bubblegum-soul heaven.

I respectfully disagree.  But I'm with you on the majesty of "Mr. Telephone Man," "In My House," "Lovergirl" (one of the first songs I ever had, um, stirrings to), and "Go Home" (which I actually haven't heard since it was a hit; maybe I should go YouTube it now).

"Obscene Phone Caller" is worth watching on YouTube as well.  Guy was a freak.  And his British accent was even worse than RFTW's.

Now yeah! boom! nitty gritty! Shirley Ellis with the orig version, before Gladys & Co.

and it's followed -- Nugget o' the Day, for sure -- by Vanity Fare's *other* hit, the pre- "Hitchin' a Ride" ditty "Early in the Morning".  Have not heard this in decades.

it's a miracle to be hearing "It's a Miracle"!  One of Mr Manilow's best singles, with great backing vox by Lady Flash (if they were indeed called that, at that point).  'LNG has been beyond spectacular this afternoon.

EITM is a major favorite of mine - I love those oh-so-Gypso-Russo-Euro melodies (see also: "Those Were the Days," "Little Man").

And I do believe Barry's backing babes were indeed Lady Flash at that point - didja know one of them was Reparata (as in, and the Delrons, of "I'm Nobody's Baby Now" semi-fame)?

Yes, I did know that -- and I wish Dave'd unearth their only hit, "Street Singin'".

'LNG's stream crapped out so I switched to country: the orig Don Williams version of "Tulsa Time", which beats Crapton all to hell. And now Donna Fargo's delightfully gospelly "You Can't Be a Beacon (If Your Light Don't Shine)", an almost-hit that's far better than her cutesy pop Top Tens.

as much as we bash Phil Collins here, I must say "Two Hearts" is a neat little pop single, one of his better efforts, IMHO (and one that Dave's never played -- it would be a welcome addition to '88/'89, methinks).

Sweeney's staying away from the mic here in the last hour, just playing some great tunes. We're getting Martha and the Vandellas' Dancin' In the Street right now. He says he's got a special song picked for his finale--wonder what it's going to be?

I shot him an e-mail wishing him well, and asked for a Kinks tune--not holding my breath if I'll get it or not.

And he wraps it up with the Beatles' In My Life.

Not too much sentimentality in the final minutes, but he did seem to get a little misty when thanking everyone for all their good wishes about half an hour ago.

He mentioned he's going off to do a TV program on the Manchester United football club, a subject close to his Mancunian heart no doubt.

So I got home early this afternoon and, with some time to kill before John Adams, I finally remembered "Lost 45s" -- it's been ages since I listened, I usually forget, and besides, the station's web page takes For. Ev. ER. to load with dial-up.  But I finally get set up and... they've upgraded their player and I can't listen without downloading Adobe Flash Player or somesuch. Damn.
