Title: 6 March 2008: it's 1971!
Post by: RGMike on March 06, 2008, 07:45:29 AM
happy B-Day shray -- maybe we'll get instrumentals tomorrow?

In any case, Dave was asking Fogheads this morning to vote for the Partridge Family song they'd most like to hear:

I'll Meet You Halfway
I Woke Up in Love This Morning
Doesn't Somebody Want to be Wanted

only "Halfway" would be a bustout, so that gets my vote (tho' the other 2 have only been played once each)

Gaz?

Alas not what we were hoping for, but not bad at all. Hoping for good things.

But! It's been not even two weeks since our last trip to '71--what's up with that?!?

Let's skip "Wanted," it's silly.  Er, silly-ER.  I vote for IWUILTM.  But if he goes with IMYH, listen to the refrain and tell me if it reminds you of Alice Cooper's "You and Me."

Good recall.  It was Joel, the one you didn't meet yet, who didn't go to college with Davemack.  I remember being very impressed with his musical taste for choosing this.

Oh yeah, Paul's cool.  He's on our advisory board & I did a big beta test with him all last summer.  We've also attended two conferences together.  He's mostly down for a meeting at Google, which is only a few blocks away, so I picked him up at SFO & he's just hanging with me until his meeting.

Used to think this song was just two guys--a drummer and a keyboardist, but I guess there is a bass goin' on there, too. Still, pretty stripped down--certainly no guitar. No BOS either--so much for the 10-way tie.

so the Bonus is... "Substitute"?? it was orig released in '66, Annalisa -- just because it was on a GH in '71 is no reason... oh what's the use?

And she copped to the fact that it was on a compilation--wtf? (Admittedly one of the greatest comps ever, but that doesn't excuse the gaffe.)

I just now noticed that they edit the Birthday stuff out of the PM replay -- I know they do that on the weekend marathon but doing it at nite is a fairly new thing, no? In any case, hope Mark wasn't taping for posterity...

OK Mark, a SECRET message from Dave.
Instrumental on tap for next week.

Super hit 6 Partridge Fam!

I have a business partner from Portland with me in the office this am. and I had to interrupt him so that we could here Dave's intro.  Paul said, "Wow, a secret message to you fromthe deejay.  Pretty cool!"
Don't forget to turn up SuperHit 6 LOUD during your business meeting!

I went to bed in love with your avatar.  I went to bed in LOVE with your avatar.  Went to sleep with Keith Partridge on my mind.

We're so sorry we cut your budget...

BOS Macca -- the puddin' wouldn't melt, so I put it in the pie (or whateverthehell he says).

"Butter," I think it is.  But one shouldn't pay too close attention to Paul's lyrics, especially when he switches subjects from transvestites to pantry staples.
OK, I'll bite.  When does he sing about transvestites (other than Lady Madonna)?

Sweet Loretta Martin thought she was a woman, but she was another man.
the aforementioned Desmond putting on his pretty face
the aforementioned glam-rock dandies in "Rock Show"
I thought the Major was a Lady Suffragette!

I wasn't, but almost tried to.  Just as well I guess.

They do? That's a recent development--I know they've been cutting them out of the Saturday replays (makes sense) but to excise them from the evening replay is kinda silly.
