Listening right now...

...one minor quibble -- DW uses Sonny Curtis' 1980 country version of "Love Is All Around" instead of the HTF 1970/71 version.

Tom Jones!

ETA: I'm not doing a song-by-song analysis right now to avoid spoilers for everyone waiting to listen tomorrow.

Ok, I'm listening and we begin with Ike & Tina and what is clearly not the correct version of "Proud Mary". Not sure if this is a re-recording, alternate take, or what.

Fairly pedestrian song selections but BOS a Partridge Fam clip I didn't recall: Danny and his younger sister want to be Negroes (!), followed cleverly by Rare Earth, Motown's only white act. Heh.

and now we're back to FF-ville with "Shaft"

1.   “Proud Mary” - Ike & Tina Turner (wrong version)
TV: All in the Family theme
2.   “Tired of Being Alone -  Al Green
   News: Manson Trial
3.   “Won’t Get Fooled Again”-  The Who (looong version)
TV: Partridge Family (Danny wants to be a Negro)
4.   “I Just Wanna Celebrate”-  Rare Earth
Dirty Harry “do I feel lucky?”
5.   “Theme from ‘Shaft’” - Isaac Hayes
   Movie: Diamonds are Forever
6.   “I Hear You Knockin” -  Dave Edmunds
7.   “Love is all Around” – Sonny James Curtis (1980 version as noted above)
   Movie: Love Story
8.   “She’s a Lady” - Tom Jones
   Commercial:  Raquel Welch for Motorola
9.   “Smiling Faces” -  Undisputed Truth
   Movie: Carnal Knowledge
10.   “Rockin Robin” – Michael Jackson

Per Soundhound, it's from the soundtrack to the Tina biopic that came out in the 90s, "What's Love Got to Do With It?" So a re-recorded (and much less potent, imo) version.
Let's get right to it.

Clever lead-in to the blue-eyed soul of Rare Earth.

I'm listening now.

And while we're at it, a happy 86th birthday to ol' Dirty Harry himself, Clint Eastwood. Talked to any chairs lately, Clint?

This set is reminding me of the sort we used to get in the DC era. Good songs, but very familiar ones.
Let's get right to it.

Did James really say what I think he said?

What (or who) is "HTF"?

You mean "that sexy look will do wonders for you"? Yeah, afraid so. Or was there something else I missed.

No idea on HTF.

I meant where she asks him whether he prefers blondes or brunettes, and he replies, "well, as long as the cuffs match the collar", or something like that.

Ah, that. Yeah, he really said that too.

Again, this was an OK set, save for the two remakes that tarnished what would have otherwise been my two BOS candidates.

And to be a real stickler, we also got the re-recorded version of the All in the Family theme, which they did several seasons down the line to better enunciate the line "gee our old LaSalle ran great..."
