Dean plays The New Seekers' lovely cover of Harry Chapin's "Circles", one of their follow-ups to "I'd Like to Teach the World". A MUCH bigger hit in the UK than here. Haven't heard this since 1972.
-
another lost gem: Mink DeVille, "Spanish Stroll".
-
and, after switching to WLNG: Vikki Carr! "It Must Be Him". Just a hunch: I bet Dave LOVES this song but would never play it in a million years.

I always dug the song, but it certainly rings just a tad pathetic, eh?

As pathetic as "With Pen in Hand"? (Disclaimer/warning: If I ever see WPIH in a karaoke room, I'm taking it on as if it were a mechanical bull.)

I'm assuming you know Ms carr's version of WPIH, but it was also done around the same time by Billy "At This Moment" Vera, one of his earliest chart hits.

There ARE no coincidences, Part 3,765,221... Last nite KTEH showed a Harry Chapin special, lots of old performance footage, including "Circles".

Mr. Vera wrote the song, but I've never heard him sing it. I guess it makes more sense from a male perspective -- why's she asking him to teach the girl how to do her hair? -- but I don't care for Vera's hot-rocks-hit-with-water voice.

on WLNG: the Shaun Cassidy cover of Eric Carmen's "That's Rock'N'Roll".
C'mon everybody get down get with it!
-
CG: Sweet, "Fox on the Run"!
Eamonn Kelly is sitting in for Dean... I emailed a request for TTD, "If You Let Me Stay".

Never heard that. Have to add it to my list of Soft Cell songs I like better than "Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go."
OOooh Mike, quick, switch back to DDT, it's your favorite Eagles song!

OMGWTF! WLNG plays Dusty, "Brand New Me". Heaven.
-
Dean on CG follows Dusty's "Preacher Man" with the Move -- the orig version of "California Man", later covered by Cheap Trick.
-
there are no coinc --- OK from now on we'll just abbreviate that to TANC.
WLNG plays BJ Thomas, "Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song".
-
WLNG nugget o' the day: "Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show". They thought THAT would be a smash and that "Sweet Caroline" would then be the soundalike followup. But they got it backward, sorta.
-
CGSS: Gloria Gaynor, "Never Can Say Goodbye", the loooooooooong version!

WLNG lost nugget o' the day: Boyce & Hart, "Alice Long".

WLNG lost nugget o' the day: Boyce & Hart, "Alice Long".
I've long wondered how much chutzpah it must take to tell someone "you're still my favorite girlfriend," thus implying that you have more than one. (I have that song on one of my Varese Sarabande bubblegum collections, it's a treat.)

I just assumed he meant "of all the girlfriends I've ever had... you're my favorite".
Summer of '68, I spent many many nites glued to my tinny little transistor radio listening to CKLW Detoit, where "Alice Long" was a huge hit. It barely got played in NYC.
