Judge spins Patti LaBelle, "It's a Joy to Have Your Love" -- her first solo single from 1977!
-
out of left field: The Wannabes and the Jigaboos (from the sndtk of School Daze).
and OMG -- followed by the Clark Sisters, "You Brought the Sunshine", which I haven't heard since it was a WBLS playlist staple in the early '80s.
-
the loooooooooooooong (and I mean loooooooooooooong) version of "Love to Love You Baby" -- an entire LP side back in the day iirc.
-
one of Judge's rare clunkers: Band of Gold's "Love Songs Are Back Again", a lame (and endless) "medley" record with soundalikes for the Stylistics, Blue Magic, the Manhattans etc singing snippets of hits. Sheer torture.
-
OMGWTFLOL! Judge plays Richard "Dimples" Fields "She's Got Papers", followed by Barbara Mason's answer record "She's Got the Papers, but I Got the Man"!!
-
CGSS's Greg is subbing for Dean on the Jukebox this week.
-
OMGWTF! Goldie & the Gingerbreads (featuring a very young Genya Ravan) doing their cover of Herman's Hermit's "Can't You Hear My Heartbeat?"
-
Mercy sakes alive! Greg fulfills a request for "Convoy"! That's a big 10-4!
-
I was VIP'ing this afternoon. Heard the original "See Saw" -- Don Covay? Whoever it was, someone should tell him that see saws don't go "up, down, all around" unless they're broken.

This post is going into the dictionary next to the word "nitpick"
-
OMGWTF: "A Ladies' Man" by the Volcanos. Makes "Cool Jerk" seem stoic.
-
Stunner of an obscurity: "Let Our Love Grow Higher" by Eula Cooper. She's a little high-strung but oh those congas, oh those strings.
-
I can't tune away from Greg, not when he's playing Ms Branagan's "Gloria".
followed by Jim Capaldi's very upbeat version of "Love Hurts"
-
WLNG Nugget o' the Day: Lesley Gore, "California Nights".
Nugget #2, The Buckinghams' "Susan" -- the looong version with the weirdass sound effects.

Both major faves of mine, especially the Gore sunshine pop (written by Marvin Hamlisch!).

"Susan" was a huge fave of mine when I was, what, 13? Didn't hear the "loong" version (not that much longer, actually) till sometime later. The song itself sounds like it was written with the Four Seasons in mind, doncha think?

VIP plays Jr Walker, "Come See About Me", one of his many entertaining covers.
-
Stream is choppy, and I have to review unsigneds for Starpolish, so this is Gaz signing off for the night. Off to see the Mets-Phils game tonight, will let you all know if I have any up-close Pat the Bat sightings.

Maybe he's the "handsome boyfriend" Mike Meyers has been squiring around town
-
the DEEtoit Emeralds fab "Do Me Right", follwed by more Jr Walker, "Gotta Hold On to this Feeling".
-
Okay, I'm listening to KCDX now, Beatles "Piggies" is on & before that they played:
3:14 pm - Fleetwood Mac - Sands Of Time
3:21 pm - Dire Straits - Lady Writer

3:28 pm - Dr.John - Hugh Smith Medley
3:31 pm - Steppenwolf - It's Never Too Late
3:34 pm - Bowie, David - Space Oddity
When I first looked at their website they had recently played a song by Mason Proffitt other than Two Hangmen. If that ain't the definition of ECLECTIC then I don't know what is.
Oooh, proxy for Beej & Ali, "Back In The Saddle Again"
-
KCDX:
3:53 pm - Cutting Crew - I've Been In Love Before
Say wha?
Saw 'em open for the Bangles at the Greek in '89 or thereabouts. Enh. Well at least it's not "I Just Died In Your Arms".
BTW, the quality of the stream (48kbps vs. pirate KPIG @ 128kbps) is pretty miserable.
-
Just as Darrly posts that my stream cuts out twice.
but the aforementioned Cutting Crew was in between some old, old ZZ Top & a proxy for Mike on the BJ. Reckon I also oughta proxy for Rod on the Zep, which brightened my afternoon fer sher.
A-a-ah ah!
3:50 pm - ZZ Top - Francine
3:53 pm - Cutting Crew - I've Been In Love Before
3:59 pm - David Bowie - Ashes to Ashes

4:28 pm - Neil Young - Cortez The Killer

KCDX just now:
10:35 am - Ray LaMontagne - How Come
Sweet, a Ray LaMontagne track that isn't "Trouble"!
and:
10:39 am - Genesis - I Can't Dance
Oh man, love this track. Remember the goofy video of the trio dancing in step. Pity it's never showed up on KFOG, not even in 10@10, as far as I can tell...
-
CG plays early Manfred Mann's Earth Band: "Joybringer" from 1973. I've never heard this before.
-
another lost British gem: Mr Big, "Romeo" from '77.
-
over to WLNG for the Seekers "I'll Never Find Another You". Loverly.
-
Wow, this is VERY interesting and I'm sorry I'll miss it:
CG is doing an A-Z on Monday of great songs that "you'll never believe did not make the Top 30" when they were hits. Cool idea.
-
CGSS flashback: Shalamar's "Uptown Festival", the original "medley record" featuring short versions of a buncha Motown classics with soundalike singers, set to a dance track, Circa 1977.
ETA: followed by another not-since-the'70s track, Brecker Bros, "Sneakin' Up Behind You".
and now En Vogue, givin' to the needy, but not the greedy!
-
Linda Clifford! "If They Could see Me Now"
-
Alicat Cubedance fest! Michael Zager Band, "Let's All Chant".
and the smooth Rev Green, "Sha-La-La"
I get to leave early today (new supervisor trying to buy our love). See y'all over the weekend.
-
Bless JJ on KPOO for his Sat nite soul. Chairmen of the Board, "Dangling on a String", followed by Freda Payne's "You Brought the Joy", followed by Detroit Emeralds, "Baby Let Me Take You In My Arms". Hoo lawd!
