Hmmm... Maybe I'm not up to date -- what do you mean by Dave's farewell (again)?

Today is the last rerun with Dave; next week Annalisa begins presenting new 10@10s. See the Stream of Consciousness board for further deets.

KFrOG sent a message to "registered Fogheads" announcing that Annalisa will start doing 10at10 as of Monday. It said that they'd hoped Dave would continue to do 10at10, but that he was ending his association for KFOG after this show. I read that to mean they weren't willing to pay Dave what it's worth to do 10at10, so they're gonna get Annalisa to do it for nothing, or basically for one more hour's worth of pay.

This Chicago was a first-and-only-time rarity when this set was new. . BOSFRA.
-
I'm keeping away from the Shraytabase (and KFOG's 10@10 page) today--want this to be entirely a surprise.
BOS Chicago, In Terms of Two. Don't think this ever charted--a deep cut from Chicago VI (or was it VII?)
BOS2, JB, Take It Easy.

absolutely, but so many folks have been canned lately in the industry, I bet Annalisa isn't complaining.

Yup, I just read what you wrote, and it's spot on with my take.

VHM to Gun Hill Road (a stop on the 6 train, I think), "Back When My Hair Was Short."
-
Was hoping for the segue into These Days, but not surprised not to get it.
Nice batch of Nixon clips.
Ooooh--and Gun Hill Road! A certified Dave-fave. This set was indeed well-chosen, just based on what we've heard so far. BOS3

Thanks everyone for getting me up to date. I'm in the middle of reading the Stream of Counsciousness postings -- I totally agree so far...
But I have to take a break to give a Big BIG BOS to Steely Dan - Boddhisatva - probably my fave all-time Dan song, which says a lot....
-
i want to comment, but I'm busy and I'm kinda sad b/c of the true end of an era.
:(
gun hill road was NTM. cute!~
-
BOS for Bodhisattva. A great one.
Yeppers! With a great solo from arms expert Skunk Baxter.
as opposed to skunk expert Arms Baxter. BOS(3) from me too.
-
Anyone wanna hear the looo-ooong version of In-a-Gadda-da-Vida? quick go to L.A.
ETA: okay, he didn't play the whole thing, only about 7-8 minutes of it.
-
BOS for Bodhisattva. A great one.
Did I already post BOS for this song? Hmmm, yes, but it's worth a 2nd BOS from me!! :-)
-
gun hill road was NTM. cute!~
OHW from a band from the Bronx. It spent all of one week in the Top 40 at just about this time of year in '73. Produced by Kenny Rogers, of all people.

Did Dave ever play the live version with the extended intro by the band's drunk MC, Jerome Aniton (sp?)?
-
WOS creepy Bobby Goldsboro, dippin' his wick for the first time. "two lips/julep": yeesh.

I didn't know that!!
I've said it before, but y'all should hear Millie Jackson's cover of this Bobby Goldsboro song. She knocks it out of the park, gives it a totally different (and far less creepy) feel.

Super-hit-from-hell Six! Bobby Goldsboro's coming-of-age tune. What hath the Summer of '42 wrought?
-
WOS creepy Bobby Goldsboro
"Creepy" JINX!

When I heard the "sun was a demon" line, alarms started to go off, but I couldn't remember what this was. Creepy is right.
-
Bobby Goldsboro "looked in her eye" and he "swore it was winking."
So she has only one eye?

I assume she sings from the older woman's POV? or does some old dude sip the julep on his porch and deflower her?

Yep, guess so!
Another BOS to Reverend Al!

I'd much rather hear Al Green sing about sex than Bobby G. BOS4.

The latter. But she changes the julep to a "cold, cold beer" (I forget what else she changes to make that rhyme). I guess she thought the line as written was dumb too.

PS: What also helps the song is that she gives it new context: it's the last song on her Caught Up concept album about the dissolution of a marriage amid cheating; and she uses it to, upon having dissolved the relationship, look back on how fresh it was when it first began.

BOS to Elton and that yo-yo Alice.

she sipped on a cold beer, and reached for his cute rear.
speaking of: BOS5 "Alice", a 16-year-old yo-yo.

BTVOS for HR Puf 'N' Stuff!

Gotta say, I'm not quite so on the edge with this one. Or at least I wasn't until Gladys Knight showed up.
At least KFOG gave the fogheads (and us) a little warning this was happening, rather than just dropping Annalisa on us Monday morning.

great characterization re: dreaming the show -- I have tidbits of bizarrre memories of it, too. But It hasn't cropped back into my awareness via the net or re-runs or anything for a long time. I don't recall the "Shellllo" part. Now I have to youtube it.

I'm getting the vibe that he may start streaming eventually, but he's going to keep it simple for now and just do the low-power, over-the-air broadcasts.

shray was right: it has the most appropos lyric for what's happening.
Just read thru the lyrics and you are right:
It's sad to think, we're not gonna make it
And it's gotten to the point where we just can fake it (Ooo)
For some unGodly reason we just won't let it down (let it down)
I guess
neither one of us (neither one of us)
Wants to be the first to say good bye
I keep on wondering (wondering)
What I'm gonna do with out ya (do without you)
And I guess you must be wondering that same thing too (Ooo)
So we go on go on together living our lives (living our lives)
Because neither one of us (neither one of us)
Wants to be the first to say good bye
Oooooh ev'rytime I find the nerve
Everytime I find the nerve to say I'm leavin' (leavin')
Oh, memories, those old memories get in my way (my way my way)
Oh (Ooo) Lord knows it's only me only knows it's only me
That I'm deciving
When it comes to say good bye
That's a simple word that I just cannot say
There can be no way (be no way)
This can have a happy ending (happy ending)
So we just go on (we go on) hurting and pretending
And convincing ourselves to give it just one more try (one more try)
Because neither one of us (Neither one of us)
Wants to be the forst to say
Neither one of us (neither one of us) Wants to be the first to say
Neither one of us (Neither one of us) wants to be the first to say
Fairwell my love, goodbye (goodbye

So Krishna, as when he admonished Arjuna
On the field of battle.
Not fare well,
But fare forward, voyagers.
The real last set:

1. Grand Funk Railroad - We're an American Band
2. Chicago - In Terms of Two
3. Jackson Browne - Take It Easy
4. Gunhill Road - Back When My Hair Was Short
5. Steely Dan - Bodhisattva
6. Bobby Goldsboro - Summer
7. Al Green - Here I Am
8. Elton John - All the Girls Love Alice
9. Genesis - I Know What I Like
10. Gladys Knight & the Pips - Neither One of Us
Note the header just says "Friday 1973" rather than "Time spent in 1973" or the like. Guess maybe the our favorite intern was a little sad about it all too.
