Title: 3 Aug 2011: it's... 1978!
Post by: RGMike on August 02, 2011, 08:21:54 PM
wow, could we have 2 great sets in a row?

Someone actually asked for "Mr Blue Sky". I shit you not. And "Dreadlock Holiday" too.

ETA: AL put the kibosh on the ELO request.

EC with a "Radio"-centric TOTHK. Let's hope AL listens to the voice of reason.

I love the sound of Nicky Lowe.

"Ebony Eyes" is a bit of a 'trina at this point.

From Bruce (Jenner) to Bruce (Springsteen). 3-way in Candy's room!

VHM "Magnet & Steel". Poor Walter Egan: he had an unrequited crush on Stevie Nicks and all he got was a hit single.

BoS Devo! I think this should be the definitive version of "Satisfaction".

I'm liking this 78 set. While it's ok to have change, we still need 60's and 70's for some spice.

Is there some law that says Tom Petty has to be played in every set? Also, agree with everyone re: INXS omnipresence -- unnecessary.

Still, this TP is decent. The 80's stuff is just annoying. "Take back your... Trina".

Stayin' Alive -- the song that inspired the only amusing Jimmy Fallon SNL sketch.

Although his Neil Young cover of "Whip your hair" shows he's got at least one other funny bone in his body.

yes, one of the best covers ever.

I'm liking this set.  It's as if it was a magnet and I'm like a piece of metal or something.

I thought Fallon was hilarious on the Emmys last year -- sadly he's not hosting this year. The orig SNL parody of Sat Nite Fever was genius -- "it's great to be young and stoopid and living in Brooklyn!"

a song about male hustlers, correct?  Sorry if that seems obvious, I just never really heard the words before.  So 53rd Street was the place?

Comcast On Demand is driving me crazy the last few days.  They show teasers while you search for what you want to watch, and lately they've been featuring some horrible Kardashian thing that makes me want to run screaming from the room.

didn't we hear "Surrender" somewhere recently?  VHM anyway -- a true classic.

BoS2 Cheap Trick!!! Go AL with showing 70's doesn't have to be boring. Let the LIVE105 crowd know this kind of stuff pre-dates their birth!

BOS, DEVO.

78 is my least favorite 70's year.

Not really feeling this set.  And I've liked a fair # of AL's 78-79...I guess this one isn't "new wave-centric" enuff for my tastes.  Can't say no to Devo...but they're pretty 'trinariffic by now.  Same with Surrender...it seems a bit deja-vu-ish.

53rd & 3rd -- as featured in the Ramones song of that name (and also Rod's "Killing Of Georgie"). there were several hustler bars and in good weather the "boys" would be up'n'down the street.

Yeah, after yesterrday I was hoping for another bustout-y collection. Well, at least we avoided "Mr Blue Sky" and "Dreadlock Holiday"...

Not really feeling this set.

Yeah, Tom Petty can do that.   :-\

I thought there was lots to like. But I can be pretty easy to please when it comes to 70s mainstream/radio pop and rock.

My BOSes go to Bob Welch, Bruce, Walter Egan, Devo and CT.  HMs to EC, Stones and BeeGees.  (Tom Petty gets diddly).

CT is playing that Bone BBQ on Aug 20 (Stone Temple Pilots headline).  There's an outside chance I may go (b/c of CT, naturally).
