i don't get this cover of Good Vibrations -- so far it's nothing more than a note-for-note recreation, down to the harmonies and theramin.  It's pretty much a perfect song anyway, so why this exact cover?

I don't disagree; and that was pretty much the critical line on it at the time.

BOS to Springsteen's War.  He's channeling a little Tom Jones here, don't you think?
Good God, y'all, great production on this one.

BOS3 JCM, "Under the Boardwalk", one of many terrific B-sides he issued in the '80s.

Almost bought a JCM greatest hits yesterday at Amoeba for $3.  I don't have any of his stuff, but I am gaining an appreciation for some reason these days.  I think it's b/c of you, Mike.  You often give him a HM or BOS and I think it's affecting my outlook!

but not really a fan of this one .. yet.

I may have told this story before, but:  Like many I didn't truly appreciate JCM until Scarecrow, which arrived with Springsteen's seal-of-approval (he had told some critics who had written JCM off as a wannabe that "this kid is really better than that", to which Robert Christgau replied "OK but Mellencamp better not call me next year to say the same thing about Bryan Adams").  During the one-two punch of Sacrecrow and Lonesome Jubilee he has some swell B-sides, like this and also a cover of JB's "Cold Sweat".

"toejam football": ewwww.  And what exactly is an "Ono sideboard"?  Still, VHM Aerosmith, one of the few worthwhile Beatle covers from the abysmal SPLHCB flick.

BOS Molly Hatchett, whose singer has always sounded like he's got some hamburger stuck in his throat.

sounds a little like Grover from Sesame Street
