Title: 14 February 2008: Valentine's Day
Post by: mshray on February 13, 2008, 01:57:03 PM
Dave posted a pre-Valentine's blog full of poetry, but without any mention of ideas for tomorrow's set.
http://www.kfog.com/shows/airstaff/dave_morey.asp (http://www.kfog.com/shows/airstaff/dave_morey.asp)

so I posted the following comment:

Hey Dave, noting the Requiescat segment above, how about for tomorrow's 10@10 a set of love songs about dead lovers/loved ones?

You've got everything from "Teen Angel" to "Last Kiss" to "Tears In Heaven". Lots of 70's cheese is possible too.

My personal favorite is Sinead O'Connor "I Am Stretched On Your Grave".

well aren't YOU the cheery one?

I'm guessing he has either made up his mind what he's doing tomorrow (and doesn't want contrary suggestions), or else we get a last-minute plea on the morning show for Fogheads to decide between "Love Songs" and "Love Stinks".

Given the tone of most of the verses he posted on his blog, I'm guessing it'll be something along the lines of "love stinks" "or "you done me wrong" (or maybe "I'll be glad when you're dead you rascal you").

yeah, this wouldn't get anywhere near my top 5 Valentine's songs, although CBB certainly would.  And though it's a guilty displeasure for me,  I can see how "Unchained Melody" would for 98% of humanity*.

*this is without doubt the #1 Most Romantic Song Ever for most people in the greater Chinese world, to which I can attest after many visits to karaoke in China, Hong Kong & Taiwan.

Ghost is underrated IMHO -- a movie some people love to hate because it made a ton of money and has Swayze and Moore as the leads. Schmalz, to be sure, but nicely crafted and well-directed schmaltz.

Under-rated!?  You mean it deserved *more* than the 2 Oscars & 5 noms that it got!?  Not to mention the $500M worldwide gross? I may be highly vocal in my dislike for it, but I'm in the extreme minority.

I mean underrated critically -- "hip" people tend to dismiss it (for precisely the reasons you mentioned) and it often shows up on lists of "worst Best Pic Oscar nominees ever" and I can think of worse movies to get Oscar love.

so has Dave dropped any hints this morning?

Given the tone of most of the verses he posted on his blog, I'm guessing it'll be something along the lines of "love stinks" "or "you done me wrong" (or maybe "I'll be glad when you're dead you rascal you").

So I'm only partially right--it's "Valentine's Day: Opposing Viewpoints."

or, as Dave put it around 7:30, it's "Love, ahhh...." vs. "Love, grrrr...."
Hope we get Nilsson's "You're Breakin' My Heart"

It could happen. It's been in at least two VD sets previously (including last year's).

Well, there's still hope for Annalisa to play it--ya think?

Btw, who was you were thinking of that Ellen Foley was married to? I don't think she actually married Mick Jones. And the wikipedia entry I read said she's now married to a writer named Doug Bernstein, who I'm not familiar with.

During the play of Meatloaf'sParadise it first popped in my head that she was married to Robby Benson, but he married Karla DeVito, who played the girl in the Paradise video, while Ellen Foley did the singing!

I always lump Ellen Foley together with Ellen Shipley and Karla DeVito (DeVito toured with MeatLoaf and did that "Paradise" part in the show, and was/is married to Robby Benson).
