"freebird" is one of those songs i dread to hear at the onstart, but by the time it's nearing the end, i find i'm hoedown'ing right along...like "stairway to heaven," only without the hoedown part.

Stayed out late having a fancy dinner with a friend/client in from Austin, and thus not off to an early start today.  But missing the Who & Sweet is a nasty little price to pay.  I LOVE "Little Willie"

Yep. Their first album didn't even chart until after their second album was released in 74, and Sweet Home Alabama had hit. Free Bird hit 19 on the singles chart in '75. That about jives with my recollection--don't think I heard it much before '74 at the earliest.
