RIP Robert Marcucci, 81; discovered Frankie Avalon, Fabian
« on: March 17, 2011, 01:34:26 PM »
Robert P. Marcucci, talent manager who discovered Frankie Avalon, Fabian.  The former record company owner's career inspired the 1980 film 'The Idolmaker' starring Ray Sharkey as a hustling, Marcucci-like character named Vinnie Vacarri, who molds and manages two young teen idols.  He also was a producer of "The Razor's Edge," the 1984 film starring Bill Murray.  He was 81.

Idolmaker is often on lists of great music-based films and films that "get it right" as far as the music business is concerned. I've never seen it but would love to track it down.
