As a kid, I knew about John Lennon. I was 12. Heck, Double Fantasy was the first ever album I ever bought. But it wasn't until Lennon's murder that I became aware of the Beatles. To me, Lennon was a solo artist and Paul McCartney was part of Wings.

From Friday's NY Times, Dick Cavett recalls John & Yoko on his show in 1971.
