What was I thinking?  SF over Washington?

The Washington Redskins feasted on the worst team in the NFC, rolling to a 52-17 victory Sunday in what looked like a mismatch scrimmage between a top university and the junior college down the street.

Well, you got 8 right so far, which is better than I'm doing with 6.

A friend who has Niners season tix predicted an 8-8 season; his time's running out.

Well Geoff, not sure where your head was at on that one. BUT you were CORRECT with DET. AND, along with the forever Raider Rod, OAK hope finally pays off. Kudos to Rod for the solo NYG winning pick. Well, was solo before POC chimed in late with both DET and NYG picks.

Prior to Monday night, here's the standings:
9: FLEM
8: GAZ, GEOFF, POC, URTH
7: AVON
6: RGM
5: MSHRAY (WHY Nawlins over STL!?)
Sharks bleed teal.

Was that 8 road losses and 8 away losses?  Cause that was his only hope...

Jamie Martin was an NFL backup quarterback for 13 years (!) and yesterday was the first time he started & won a game.  How do you predict that?   Plus the refs jobbed the Saints with 2:10 to go or they mighta had a shot.

I would seriously have switched my DET & AZ picks based on other last minute QB info, except that the KC-MIA game caused picks to be locked in by Fri afternoon.  But I don't know what I was thinking picking Brett Favre to win a game in the Metrodome, that was just me being stupid.

SD was a victim of the football gods, the way the blocked FG bounced right into the Philly guy's arms in full stride.  If Matt Ware has to dive on the ground to recover that the Bolts still win that game the way their defense was playing.

Poor SD, this was the 2nd of the 4 games this season that they play a team coming off their bye week.  No other team has more than 2 & a bunch of teams don't have any.  And the Iggles are now 13-4 after their bye weeks, an NFL best; under Reid they are undefeated in such games.

Before picking the Lions, read this little ditty on Jeff Garcia (& pay attention to the modern music allegory at the end).

Jeff Garcia is this week's Vinny Testaverde.

Like Vinny a few weeks ago, Garcia played just well enough to beat a bad team last Sunday. Some Detroit fans now think he can save the season. Bob Wojnowski of the Detroit News called Garcia "one of the NFL's classic troubleshooters," adding that "maybe we have stumbled across the appropriate Lions quarterback, someone just old enough and confident enough to think he truly can make a difference." Mitch Albom was more skeptical in the Detroit Free Press. "To the winner goes the selective memory," he said of Garcia's rickety victory over the stumbling Browns.

Garcia, like Testaverde, is no season-changer. He's better than Joey Harrington, but he's a dink-and-dunker who goes into slumps and blames teammates and coaches when things go wrong. He can win with good receivers, but injuries have knocked out Detroit's fleet of former No. 1 picks. So this week, Garcia will be throwing to the likes of Scottie Vines, not to be confused with Bobby Strokes, Tommy White Stripes or Franz Ferdinand.

Sorry, but I refuse to use outside information in my picks.  That would require research.  Not gonna do it.  It's all gut feeling for me...
