Since nobody seems to want to listen to the 2000 set, I've replaced it with the "Strictly Instrumental" set:

https://soundcloud.com/retrocapnjack/150-10-10-strictly-instrumental

I ended up with two selections since I only received eight requests, and I wanted to get this up before
the weekend so dischead, who requested this set in the first place, could hear it.  Hope you like the
results -- feel free to comment!

nice job!  Apache from The Incredible Bongo Band is a nice one -- fun stuff overall.

Thanks, CapnJack!

Since the Superb Owl was a stinker, here's my 4th visit to 1974:

 1. Professor Longhair - Rum And Coke
 2. Stevie Wonder - Birds Of Beauty
(Paul and Linda rehearse "Sally G" on piano)
 3. Paul McCartney and Wings - Sally G
 4. Steely Dan - With A Gun
 5. George Harrison - Dark Horse
(Commercial: Memorex featuring Ella Fitzgerald and Nelson Riddle)
 6. Chicago - Italian From New York
(TV: Midnight Special featuring Al Green)
 7. Al Green - The City
 8. Earth Quake - Friday On My Mind
 9. Jimmy Buffett - Brand New Country Star
(Commercial: The Rolling Stones It's Only Rock 'N Roll)
10. The Rolling Stones - Fingerprint File

https://soundcloud.com/capnjack-1/144-10-10-1974

A brief overview of how this set was put together:

With RGMike and dischead reminiscing about instrumental openings on NYC radio,
it reminded me of NYC vet Alex Bennett's opening theme song during his Live 105
days (Professor Longhair's "Rum And Coke", thanks Alex for the ID!).  That,
combined with Chicago's "Italian From New York" (a leftover from the "striclty
instrumental" set), and the start of a '74 set is created!

Renee's previous visit to '74 brought grumblings from RGMike about how deeper
cuts would improve the set, so deep cuts from Fulfillingness' First Finale, It's
Only Rock 'N Roll
, and Pretzel Logic were chosen (not to mention Living And
Dying In 3/4 Time
and Al Green Explores Your Mind).

Geoff mentioned he would like to hear Earth Quake's "Friday On My Mind" cover.
I had Macca's "Sally G" in my back pocket ready for use in a '74 set.  And I with
Renee's "year of the horse" set on Friday, it reminded me of George Harrison's
"Dark Horse", but I didn't want to use the album version (subtly known as "Dark
Hoarse" due to his vocals), so I dug out his solo performance from a BBC radio
interview.  Add a few sound clips, and, voila!

Let me know what you think!

11. Chuck Jackson - I Keep Forgettin'

These remind me that Dave used to occasionally do a set of "The Original Versions" of songs that were later made famous by others ("Piece of My Heart" and the like).

And until now I had no idea that George Harrison's #1 hit in 1987 was actually a cover. Who says there aren't things to learn!

Major sledgehammers for me, which roughly corresponds to the time I started being hooked on listening to the radio!

Love that you got 15 songs in and the set is still around 42 minutes. A couple of sledgehammers for me here too, as I have fuzzy memories at age 3 of driving from Sacramento (where I lived w/ my folks) to San Mateo to visit the grandparents at least once a month. And on the radio we'd hear songs like Ramblin' Rose  and I Left My Heart in SF. If you'd included Ray Charles' Hit the Road Jack, my memories would have been complete.
Let's get right to it.

Even though Renee is doing a Beatles set today, here is my Beatles set, chronicling the events of February 7th, 1964:

 1. The Beatles - I Saw Her Standing There
(JFK Airport press conference part 1)
 2. The Beatles - Ask Me Why
(JFK Airport press conference part 2)
 3. The Beatles - Do You Want To Know A Secret
(JFK Airport press conference part 3)
 4. The Beatles - I Want To Hold Your Hand
(Mutual Broadcasting System coverage of fans at JFK Airport)
 5. The Carefrees - We Love You Beatles
(newsreel footage of fans at JFK Airport)
 6. The Beatles - Please Please Me
(WINS Paul Parker reporting from JFK Airport)
 7. The Beatles - From Me To You
(CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite covering the JFK Airport press conference)
 8. The Beatles - Love Me Do
(Jim Gordon reporting from the Plaza Hotel)
 9. The Beatles - She Loves You
(Saturday Club Brian Matthew interviews Paul)
10. The Beatles - Twist And Shout
(Saturday Club Brian Matthew interviews John and Ringo)
11. The Beatles - I Wanna Be Your Man
(Saturday Club Brian Matthew interviews George)
12. The Beatles - It Won't Be Long
(Murray the K interviews The Beatles)
13. The Beatles - This Boy

14. The Beatles - Thank You Girl

15. The Beatles - All My Loving

Like the '62 set, this has 15 songs, but this clocks in just under an hour.  Let me know what you think!

lovely stuff.  Stellar as always.

here are a couple of Beatle-related songs from the mid-'70s.  Barclay James Harvest take a bunch of Beatle song titles and string them together for a tune titled (appropriately) "Titles"":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRS10BeQOz0

And Bruce Foster wrote this "American Pie"- like song about the Fab Four's career in 1977. It was a mid-charting single that got quite a bit of East Coast airplay:

OMG, I love these clips, well done!  Even after hearing the actual Beatles songs since forever, the clips here are breathing new life into them.  (also, nice job on splicing together the Renée intro...)

I love the girls from Brooklyn as heard on the "Mutual Broadcasting System coverage of fans at JFK Airport" clip:
Q: How long have you been waiting
A: Foh-aw howahs!  (four hours)

And to continue the Beatle theme, there was a Rhino collection that came out on vinyl back in the early '80s called Beatlesongs!, an anthol of Beatle-related novelty records like the Carefrees' "We Love You Beatles"

http://www.amazon.com/Beatlesongs-Collection-Beatles-Novelties-Vol/dp/B000ODIN48/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1391838068&sr=1-1&keywords=beatlesongs

Recalled shortly after release because of its "controversial" cover art and never issued on CD. I found it at Recycled Records on Haight in the late '90s for $7.50.
