The occasional Sound 10@10 thread
« on: July 16, 2012, 11:45:14 AM »
I'm no longer posting their twice-a-day setlists, but this thread is for the occasional interesting set that they may do. Last Thurs nite they did a "mystery theme" set -- damned if I can figure out the connection:

7/12 - Mystery

Summer of 69 - Bryan Adams
Back on the Chain Gang - Pretenders
And We Danced - Hooters
Livin After Midnight - Judas Priest
Rocket Man - Elton John
Refugee - Tom Petty
Helpless - Neil Young
Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2
Heroes - David Bowie
Message in a Bottle - Sting
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round

Is there an answer to this? I'm probably thinking way too hard, but the best I can do is this somehow describes one's "coming of age".

I think I know the answer now. Bear in mind that the Bryan Adams and Hooters songs were very close in release dates.

Thank jeebus, because my other answer would have been "Ten songs that suck?"

Actually, it seems to be one of the deeper things the Sound as done. I suppose in 2017 AL could do a ten year anniversary of Earth Aid (what was the event that happened on 7/7/07 called?).

Their "year" sets tend to be on a par with the Drive's (pretty pedestrian; same database of songs, it would appear) but occasionally they do a theme set that is praiseworthy (see: the Tony Awards set they did in June)

A couple of interesting "theme" sets this past week:

Fri 7/13/12 (PM): Friday the 13th

I ain't Superstitious - Jeff Beck
Bad Luck - Social Distortion
Black Friday - Steely Dan
Black Magic Woman - Santana
Superstition - Stevie Wonder
Born Under a Bad Sign - Cream
I put a Spell on You - CCR
Strange Days - Doors
You Got Lucky - Tom Petty
Hollywood (Down on your Luck) - Thin Lizzy

I don't think I've EVER heard that Thin Lizzy tune on the radio.

Wed 7/18/12 (AM): A very MANLY set!

I'm a Man - Chicago
Sharp Dressed Man - ZZ Top
I'm a Man - Muddy Waters
Ramblin' Man - Allman Brothers
Magic Man - Heart
Mr. Tambourine Man - Byrds
Back Door Man - Doors
Iron Man - Black Sabbath
Soul Man - Blues Brothers
Monkey Man - Rolling Stones
