the Sound, week of 4/23/12
« on: April 24, 2012, 12:51:33 PM »
Mon 4/23/12

AM (Larry): 1982

Hurts So Good - John Mellencamp
Heat of the Moment - Asia
Hold Me - Fleetwood Mac
Love My Way - Psychedelic Furs
It's Raining Again - Supertramp
Rock the Casbah - Clash
Abracadabra - Steve Miller Band
Open Arms - Journey
White Wedding - Billy Idol
Rosanna - Toto

utterly Y&S  -- BTW, I got dissed in g-snipes by Mr Springsteen-lover for saying snarky things about Asia. I thought he was some kind of purist (Bruce, Stones, Ramones -- that I can respect) but ASIA? Watered-down, commerciallized "prog" done by a manufactured "supergroup"? That sort of thing is what made rock radio suck in the early '80s -- and the reason Alternative formats came into being.

PM (Rita): 1988

When Love Comes to Town - U2
Just Like Paradise - David Lee Roth
Under the Milky Way - The Church
Ship of Fools - Robert Plant
The Flame - Cheap Trick
Forever Young - Rod Stewart
Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
Kokomo - Beach Boys
New Sensation - Inxs
Handle With Care - Traveling Wilburys

even more yeesh-worthy than the '82 set...

You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round

Even in The Quietest Moments - Supertramp

Wed 4/25/12

AM (Larry): 1988

Desire - U2
Under the Milky Way - The Church
Say You Will - Foreigner
The Flame - Cheap Trick
Simply Irresistble - Robert Palmer
Born To Run (Live) - Bruce Springsteen
Stand - REM
Finish What You Started - Van Halen
Tall Cool One - Robert Plant
The Living Years - Mike + The Mechanics

Larry shares a year (and a track --"Desire") with AL 2 days in a row. But AL wins again.

PM (Rita): 1985

She's Waiting - Eric Clapton
R.O.C.K. in the USA - John Mellencamp
Broken Wings - Mr. Mister
And She Was - Talking Heads
Don't Come Around Here - Tom Petty
Your Love - Outfield
Money For Nothing - Dire Straits
Walking on Sunshine - Katrina & the Waves
Tonight She Comes - Cars
Take Me Home - Phil Collins

Y&S-in extremis. and there's that damn Outfield song yet again.

But I noticed that this week Larry and Rita are in synch, decade-wise. Dunno if that a conscious (or permanent) change.

I think Alone Again OR and Happy Jack save it from completely mundane.  Good Vibrations is always welcome. It's a great song, PLUS I have special fondness for it b/c my high school glee club sang it. (It was AWESOME, trust me.)

I'm a little tired of The Letter, frankly, but I never tire of the Jimi or that Spencer Davis, which is a fab TOTHK.
