18 Jan 2012: It's...1995
« on: January 17, 2012, 08:02:51 PM »
First video post is a Foo Fighters song.  Ominous?

As per usual, I've requested stuff that won't get played...PJ Harvey, something by Elastica other than "Connection", something by Belly off of their underrated, Glyn Johns-produced King album and "Passenger Side" by Wilco.

I might as well give up on requesting songs (and she didn't "welcome" them today, but I +1'd everything from IntellectualElitist.  I actually have the albums from the first three. :P  (Including the Japanese import of the Nicki French album.  :-X )

Appreciated. Nobody commented that my first four requests were all remakes or heavy samples.

It wasn't until I read this that I realized AL didn't actually ask for requests -- but she got them anyway.

The Nikki French "Total Eclipse" is one of the best dance-remakes of a ballad ever -- the '90s equivalent of Donna Summer doing "MacArthur Park". And shortly thereafter, Bonnie Tyler herself did a dance version of MeatLoaf's "2 out of 3 Ain't Bad"

I had to look up this Nikki French song b/c I couldn't place it, but I did instantly recognize it once I heard it.  It is fantastic, but I'd say the the likelihood of a 120 bpm dance track appearing on 10at10 is pretty slim.

If we have two of the following three Thursday and Friday, I'd suspect a pattern:

1981, 1989, 1990.

81 is a definite candidate, and while it seems as if 89 and 90 have appeared recently, I wouldn't bet against them.

EDIT: Make that 1982, not 1981

I'm going to have to put that Al Franken movie into Netflix.

"Good" qualifies as a Good Katrina.

At first I was chagrined when Ted Robinson replaced Joe Starkey as the Niners' announcer (he was a drag on Giants' broadcasts, IMHO), but he's actually worked out quite well.

Tune #3: We need some spice in this lineup, a 'haaaaay', 'hay' or 'hey' moment, if you will.

I think of "Give Me One Reason" as more of a 1996 hit, but I suppose the album was released in 1995 (and I do think it was on a KFOG promo disc from '95).

Again, nice, but LN.
