er, Counting Crows, no?

Probably. Are they local? I suppose I should know that but I missed the memo...
Sort of. They got their start in Berkeley, although I think for the most part they're an LA band these days.

A lot of SF artists started elsewhere, Boz for example.  Jerry was a true local.

well, this being Local Music Month, and with the Morning Show being "on location" every Friday, will we be getting "classics" to end each week or will Dave pre-record new sets for us?

My guess is we'll hear reruns, although last year I think he might have put one or two originals in the can for broadcast during Local Scene month. Time will tell.
Let's get right to it.

What's the on location Friday deal? I want my Friday Aug 19 birthday set! I know, after wonderful birthday sets of years past I said I'd never ask for a special set again.

They're in a diff location every Friday, including some lucky Foghead's home. This week: the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley.  Dave may well be recording new intros & outros for "classics", but I wouldn't count on the year of yer choice.

Continuity alert!

So I get home at 9:35, turn on KFOG and they're playing "Somebody to Love"... which will get played again in about an hour during the "local" rerun.

So my schedule for this month has me at the Voice every Monday from 11am to 1am and every Friday from 11am to 9pm.  This takes me out of commission for a lot of sets, including today's, which I'm quite enjoying.  I'd only heard Counting Crows' "American Girls" once before: I was actually back in SF for a visit a couple years ago, and was playing KFOG all morning.  Heard Norah Jones's "Don't Know Why" for the first time (I'd never heard of her and initially misidentified the track as Phoebe Snow making a comeback) at my friend Brandon's in the Western Addition; then, while walking up Post into Laurel Heights, heard "American Girls" and thought it was perfectly sunny and lovely.  Yeah, Adam wanted a hit REAL BAD, and that wasn't it.  Still a nice track.

What I would have REALLY liked, though, would be to hear the debut or breakthrough song for each artist in this set.  For the Airplane, I would have played "It's No Secret," to bring things back home to the Matrix.

Then you would hav eloved Selvin On The City last Sunday night, he played 'first records', the first recordings wherein various legendaries could be heard.  It was very cool.

A fourteen hour shift? Zoinks, I hope you're gettin' paid hourly (and O/T) for that. You're gonna have a very good reason not to like Mondays.

Joel must be on vacay -- that was (appropriately) one of his first shows last year. And last week he re-ran a Van Morrison concert.
