For Tinka (and other Roxy Music fans):

My alter ego's version of "To Turn You On" has been selected for a Roxy tribute album. You can listen to it here for a few days:
http://www.myspace.com/songsofroxymusicrevisited

nice bass line.  You?

Thanks, guys! And, no, it isn't me- it's my hot bass player from Vitoria - www.myspace.com/marijoseestivariz

She's good enough for a real bass!

She'd probably be into it, too. Send her the link! I like to call her my "Personal Palladino".

Gotta admit, I like that new Snow Patrol - "Crack the Shutters," is it called?  I have trouble connecting their titles to their songs.

For you western-swing lovers: Willie Nelson teams up with Asleep @ the Wheel:

http://www.amazon.com/Willie-Wheel-Nelson/dp/B001NKWLDA

Heard some of this on KPFA yesterday; sounded pretty wonderful to my ears, but them I'm a sucker for that sorta thing. They do "Hesitation Blues", which Iknow from the Hot Tuna version in the '70s.
Amazon has a free MP3 of "Hesitation Blues" from this.
Don't stand in the way of LOVE!

Here is the latest Rock supergroup, can you name any of these guys?

They are calling themselves Tinted Windows  & their debut LP comes out in April.

The lineup:

Guitar - James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins)
Bass - Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne)

...now here's where it gets interesting...

Vocals - Taylor Hanson (Hanson, aka "those mmmBop guys")
Drums - Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick)

Apparently Adam & Taylor are friends from way back, and they got Iha on board a couple years ago.

ETA: If you click on the link you can see bits of two songs performed live, and then the audio of the whole first song.  Definitely power pop, kind of made me think of the Romantics.

imho, this is either going to be very interesting, or it will vanish after about 7 milliseconds.

So, Fountains of Wayne are dead? on hiatus? or carrying on w/out Schlesinger?  I think he's a very talented songwriter, esp as a mimic/parodist.

TANC: Colbert did a bit the other night where he was transported to 1997 and "M-M-M-Bop" was playing in the background while he tried to get a dial-up internet connection.

Neither, to my knowledge. I just saw FoW here in PDX about a month ago, and they played SF at Cafe du Nord right after that. They said they're working on a new record, but probably wouldn't be out til late this year, 'cause they're a bunch of lazy fucks. So far as I know Cheap Trick is still an active band, too.

This is likely just another side project--seems like Schlesinger always has a few projects going (producing, film work, Ivy (his other band), etc.)
Let's get right to it.

I couldn't get that link to work, but here's about all you need to know:

Weird combo, methinks. I suppose it works, though...

Yes, but not sure with what regularlity.  The Morning Show crew all professed to love it when they had him on a few weeks ago.

OK, I'm sorry, but to my ears Duffy and Adele sound exactly alike. (KFOG has belately jumped on the Adele bandwagon, post-Grammys, and I just heard her on this Seattle station as well -- about a half-hour after they played Duffy). Oh dear gawd now they're playing Jason Mraz. My head may explode.

This Seattle station KMTT is playing someone named Tristan Prettyman with "Hello" -- the umpteenth Feist-alike of the last two years. It never ends.

KMTT is playing this one right now -- the name didn't ring a bell, but lawd does KFOG play this one a LOT. More Mraz-tastic-ness on their playlist. No wonder Gaz likes it ;)

been meaning to post this for a couple of weeks: The Cocktail Slippers, an all-girl band from Norway, "St Valentine's Day Massacre"  -- a Little Steven "Coolest song" that he's been playing for the past month (they're on his label, apparently).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ig5HgZGxnHQ

For you NY'ers, They're playing at the Bowery Ballroom this Thurs nite, opening for Soundtrack of Our Lives.

a Little Steven "Coolest song" that he's been playing for the past month (they're on his label, apparently).

Not to mention he wrote and produced it. So you could say he has a vested interest. :)

That said, it's a pretty good song. I'd consider seeing 'em, particularly if the rest of the record is near as good.
Let's get right to it.
