Some music DVD releases, FYI:

"The Who At Kilburn: 1977"
Long-lost footage of iconic rockers The Who made it to DVD Nov. 18, when this two-disc set showcasing a pair of decades-old live performances hit store shelves. Get a glimpse of their 1977 invite-only show at Gaumont State Theatre in Kilburn, London-- one of drummer Keith Moon's last live performances. The digitally restored and remastered video is a must-see for serious Who fans. The second disc features the group's 1969 London Coliseum gig, a never-before-seen performance, including the first-ever recording of the rock opera "Tommy."

Elton John "Red Piano-Deluxe"
The Rocket Man's long-running production at Las Vegas' Caesar's Palace, dubbed "The Red Piano," is now available on DVD for all to enjoy. The three-disc set includes a live hour-and-a-half performance of the show, which encompasses many classics (including "Benny and the Jets," "Tiny Dancer," "Candle In The Wind," "I'm Still Standing"). A short documentary of the living legend fills out the second disc, along with a backstage look at director David La Chapelle's contributions to the show, while the third is a 13-song audio collection of Elton favorites.

More new releases:
November 11:
Chic, "Live at Budokan" (Charly/MVD Visual)
Charlie Daniels, "Preachin', Prayin', Singin' with Charlie Daniels and Friends: Live From Nashville" (Koch)
Deep Purple, "Speed Kings" (Classic Rock Legends)
The Four Tops, "Reach Out: Definitive Performances 1965-1973" (Motown)
Merle Haggard, "Legendary Performances" (Shout! Factory)
Eric Johnson, "Anaheim Live" (Vanguard)
Living Colour, "The Paris Concert" (Inakustik/MVD Visual)
Pink Floyd, "Meddle" (Classic Rock Legends)
Smashing Pumpkins, "If All Goes Wrong" (Coming Home Media)
Johnny Winter, "Live Through the '70s" (MVD Visual)

November 25:
Lou Rawls, "Live in Concert" (Charly/MVD Visual)
John Sebastian, "Welcome Back" (Quantum Leap)
Ike Turner & the Kings of Rhythm, "Live in Concert" (Charly/MVD Visual)
The Yardbirds, "The Story of the Yardbirds" (Zeit Media/MVD Visual)

If you've seen The Kids Are Alright, you've seen some of the "long lost" footage from '77. Moon is bloated and sluggish, and a far piece from the manic drummer of his youth. That Tommy stuff from '69 will glow in comparison.

There's a few other things of interest on the list of other releases, but the one that intrigues me most is that Four Tops collection. The Deep Purple could be quite good as well, depending on when it was shot.
Let's get right to it.

The new Broooce, "My Lucky Day," is now available on his Myspace page:

Fitting title, as it sounds to my ears like something from the Lucky Town sessions.

The Grammy noms:

I'm officially old -- I only recognize the names of 2 out of 5 Best New Artist nominees (Duffy and the Jonas Bros).

Kudos to the Grammy nominators: only one of the Best Rock Albums actually suck.  But whythehell isn't KFOG playing the Kings Of Leon anymore?  "Sex On Fire" is everywhere except KFOG this week.

I'm happy to see that Raphael Saddiq's The Way I See It got 3 Grammy noms -- I'm listening to it right now and it's as wonderful as advertised.

new mondegreen: he sings "it's been 2 long days/and a real dark night" (since his baby's been gone), but at first it sounded like "2 long days/and a 3 dog night" -- LOL!

I looked at Radio & records' "Triple A" format chart:

1. SNOW PATROL TAKE BACK THE CITY
2. COLDPLAY LOST!
3. KILLERS HUMAN
4. ERIC HUTCHINSON ROCK & ROLL
5. RAY LAMONTAGNE YOU ARE THE BEST THING
6. O.A.R. SHATTERED (TURN THE CAR AROUND)
7. BRETT DENNEN FEAT. FEMI KUTI MAKE YOU CRAZY
8. FRAY YOU FOUND ME
9. RYAN ADAMS & THE CARDINALS FIX IT
10. SARAH MCLACHLAN U WANT ME 2

Kings of Leon are at #22  Wasn't "Sex on Fire" a #1 single in the UK?

Joel Selvin snarls about how bad the Grammy lineup is this year, except for Plant & Krauss.  I agree with him generally, tho' if he's gonna bitch about Li'l Wayne, he should also complain that James Taylor got multiple noms for his pointless covers album

Ayup.  I wanted to like it, but it doesn't do anything for me.

I'd never heard of Adele either.  (Lady Antebellum are a country band; Jazmine Sullivan does overbearing R&B, her debut hit "Need U Bad" carrying a bass-heavy reggae bounce.)  Here's her lauded "Chasing Pavements," which I'm hearing for the first time right now.  Clearly she's this year's India.Arie/Corrine Bailey Rae (that is, lotta noms, but she won't win a thing).

a Vin Scelsa discovery (or at least I heard her first on his show): Jacqui Naylor, with an album of Xmas mash-ups, sorta: she mixes, for example, "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" with "Sweet Home Alabama", and tho' i thought I never wanted to hear the latter ever again, it works (and is far more enjoyable than Kid Rock doing the same thing).

she also combines "Santa Baby" with "D'yer Mak'er" (!)

She was the one who did that sublime cover of Losing My Religion, no? I believe so.
