Scrubs featured an episode where Colin Hay walks by at various moments  playing an acoustic guitar and singing various Men at Work hits!  And another one where a quartet of hospital administrators sings TV themes throughout the episode.  "Charles in Charge!"

Totally not Felicity.

The barbershop quartet thing was awesome.  Greatest version of the Underdog theme EVER!!!  Still waiting to catch it again on re-runs.

Talk about things you never thought you'd see:

Captain Beefheart has recorded a new album and will tour this summer. He's supposedly playing the Greek on August 12.

And speaking of what-da-funk moments, I just learned this evening that the new governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick, is the son of Pat Patrick, who was the baritone saxaphonist in the Sun Ra Arkestra for years.
Let's get right to it.

I'm assuming that his name is pronounced duh-VOLL, rather than "devil"

I should have given the Beefheart thing a little more thought--turns out it was a well-hatched April Fools' joke by the editors of Harp. They've since taken down the article; no sign of an apology or a gotcha or anything though.

Last I heard, Deval Patrick is still governor of Massachusetts, however. ;)
Let's get right to it.

woke up to New Releases Thurs and they played new Joan Armatrading, apparently it's a blues album but the song they're featuring is more like a  disco-ish throwback. Me likey.

Then Benson played the new Tim Finn, he turned to Dave and said "you like this guy -- you play 'Hit the Ground Running' all the time", and Dave very defensively replied "well, not ALL the time!" (Apparently Benson gets emails from people who hate that song!)

You were just waking up then!?!?!!?  Dude, I thought you were a morning person.

Armatrading is goign to be at the Mountain Winery, I might have to budget for that one.

about the Tim Finn, it should be noted that Benson, not Dave, went off on a bit of a rant at that point about people who complain about songs that they really don't hear very often, and then the rest of the crew ribbed him pretty thoroughly about ranting.  Peter chimed in with "Inside voice, inside voice."
"Music is the Earth, People are the Flowers, and I am the Hose."

Not new, but new to me: Jon Brion and Beck's cover of Korgis' "Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime," from the Eternal Sunshine soundtrack.  How did I miss this when it came out?

I recall it from seeing the film and may have even posted about it at the time.  The sntk also includes several Polyphonic Spree tunes, as well as ELO's ubiquitous "Mr Blue Sky".

But my very favorite sndtk of the decade remains Royal Tenenbaums:

I read Aidin V's review in Sunday's Chron. He actually wasn't that snarky about it -- Prince does "A Case of You", which I'm DYING to hear, he's always gone on about how he loves him some Joni.

Courtesy of a cel phone commercial, I've discovered that "Clothes Off", the new single by Gym Class Heroes, is built around a sample of Jermaine Stewart's fab "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off" from 1986.  Is nothing sacred?

Their last single interpolated "Breakfast in America"; didn't that already answer your question?
